Cincinnati (OH) Enquirer, October 27, 1879, p. 1. ALLEGED LARCENIST JAILED Columbus, Ind., October 25-Andrew J. Hunter was arrested at Newbern, this county, yesterday by Constable Philip Spaugh on an affidavit sworn out by William McClintic, an aged farmer, charging Hunter with the theft of a pocketbook containing $600, the circumstances of which are as follows: McClintic dropped the pocketbook from his side pocket in the road some four weeks ago and soon, missing it, went back, and Hunter, who was a short distance behind, was seen to get out of his wagon and pick up something but persisted in denying that he had the money. A month elapsed, and Hunter's lavish use of money led to his arrest. A preliminary examination before Esquire Aiken of Hawcreek Township resulted in his being held for the action of the grand jury and, in default of $500 bail, he was at midnight last night brought to this city and lodged in jail.
