    1. [IN-SOUTH-CENTRAL] Harrison County: John B. Felly Died
    2. Randi Richardson via
    3. Indianapolis (IN) News, February 26, 1880, p. 3. NOTE: According to the 1870 Census record, John B. Felly, age 66 and a native of Wurttemberg, was enumerated head of household in Spencer Twp., Harrison County, with his 71-year-old wife, Barbara, also a native of Wurttemburg. He reportedly owned real estate valued at $968 and personal property valued at $50. John B. Felly, aged 79, was found yesterday at his home in Spencer Township, Harrison County, lying dead upon the floor with his eyes eaten out and one arm and one side frightfully gnawed by rats. He was quite feeble, a widower, lived alone, and had been dead a week when his body was discovered. There was no food in his house nor anything to prepare from, and the conclusion is irresistible that the old man died of starvation. He owned a farm of 100 acres of good land. Three weeks ago he went to Rothrock's mill, nearby, and asked to purchase some flour on a short credit but was denied; then the old man returned home to die of starvation. He was a miser and had a good deal of money hid away.
