    3. Corydon (IN) Republican, March 18, 1915, p. 2. OLD COLORED CITIZEN DELIVERS INERESTING LECTURE Isaiah Mitchem, one of the oldest colored citizens in southern Indiana, gave an interesting lecture at the colored church Saturday evening, March 6. His subjects were "The First Colored Child to Enter the Public Schools in Corydon," and "The Sweetest after I am Gone." He gave the name of the first colored child to enter school here as Eli Welsh, and told many interesting stories about that early time. Miss Nettie Perry, one of the workers in the A. M. E. Sunday school read a paper prepared by Mr. Mitchem on "Our Needs of Today." The other part of the program consisted of songs, music and recitations. Mr. Mitchem is an interesting character and has a clear recollection of the early days of Corydon.
