Ft. Wayne (IN) Daily Gazette, September 25, 1877, p. 1. BURIED ALIVE Nashville, Indiana, Sept. 23-J. S. Edwards, ex-sheriff of Hamilton County, while engaged in laying sewer pipe was fatally injured by the banks of a deep ditch caving in, covering him entirely. Great exertions by the citizens rescued him alive. Two ribs and the collar bone were broken, and he received other internal injuries.
