New Albany (IN) Evening Tribune, August 8, 1911, p. 4. WILD WEST Jeff Bishop Turns a Gun Loose and Is Arrested Jeff Bishop, living on Chartres between Clark and Fifteenth streets, terrorized the neighborhood of Chartres and Vincennes Street this morning by promiscuously discharging a revolver. The gun was emptied at intervals and several persons narrowly escaped being shot, one bullet missing Letter Carrier John Griefe by only a few inches as he passed along Chartres Street. Telephone messages brought Patrolmen Adams and Waterhouse to the scene, and Bishop was taken into custody. He said he had intended going to Louisville to kill a negro. He already has one notch in his gun having recently been released from Michigan City where he served a term for manslaughter.
