Elkhart (IN) Truth, June 7, 1902, p. 7. AFTER BROWN COUNTY WHITECAPS Nashville, Indiana, June 7-Detectives have been at work in Brown County for several weeks trying to run down men who have been whitecapping victims here. It is thought they went to work about the time the last grand jury failed to return indictments against suspected men, and it is thought the detectives were employed by the state authorities. The work of the detectives has resulted in the arrest of Robert Robinson, a farmer near Belmont, who was captured by Constable J. W. Kennedy on a warrant charging him with helping to whitecap Finley Stretchberry some weeks ago. Robinson will have a preliminary hearing in Squire Mann's court at Nashville, June 17. He is under $100 bond for his appearance. Robinson was charged with taking a part in the whitecapping of Robert Palmer, a Baptist preacher, several months ago and, at his trial in the circuit court, was acquitted. It is thought that other arrests will follow.
Anyone know what whitecapping is? I’ve never heard of it!
