Randi, You are doing a wonderful job. Keep it up. As someone who lives in Ohio and no longer able to research as much as I would like in Indiana, I really appreciate what you are doing. Even if I don't see pertinent family names, I get a favor of the lives of that time in Indiana. As someone who likes to know the background, not just the names and dates of family history, thank you. I even appreciated the white capping stories as a similar story touched my own family on both sides (victim and perpetrators) in Washington County, IN. -----Original Message----- From: in-south-central-request <in-south-central-request@rootsweb.com> To: in-south-central <in-south-central@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sat, May 19, 2012 3:00 am Subject: IN-SOUTH-CENTRAL Digest, Vol 1, Issue 98 Today's Topics: 1. Nashville, Indiana, August 8-The old log jail that has been a landmark for any year has been abandoned officially and now, on the rare occasion when heriff Calvin of Brown County makes an arrest, the prisoner will be taken o Franklin, Indiana, for safekeeping. The walls of the jail, that is the last of its kind in the state and robably in the country, are three feet thick and made of three tiers of ogs, the middle logs being stood on end to make it impossible for anyone to ut his way out. The building consists of two rooms-one up and one downstairs. The upper oom was reserved for women prisoners but was occupied only a few times. he lower compartment was for men. It is probable that Brown County never will have another jail as the people ay they do not need one.
