    1. [IN-SOUTH-CENTRAL] Brown County: Old Log Jail Abandoned
    2. Randi
    3. Elkhart (IN) Truth, August 8, 1911, p. 4. Nashville, Indiana, August 8-The old log jail that has been a landmark for many year has been abandoned officially and now, on the rare occasion when Sheriff Calvin of Brown County makes an arrest, the prisoner will be taken to Franklin, Indiana, for safekeeping. The walls of the jail, that is the last of its kind in the state and probably in the country, are three feet thick and made of three tiers of logs, the middle logs being stood on end to make it impossible for anyone to cut his way out. The building consists of two rooms-one up and one downstairs. The upper room was reserved for women prisoners but was occupied only a few times. The lower compartment was for men. It is probable that Brown County never will have another jail as the people say they do not need one.
