Hugh, Thanks so much for your kind words of support. I would like to say that I'm most familiar with the whitecapping events of Monroe County but have done some research in other Indiana counties and other states. It is my strong belief that as the concept of informal law enforcement became corrupt, that the focus was on personal vendettas and moral issues as opposed to racial or religious beliefs. The KKK was the group associated with the latter. By the 1920s, the horse thief detective association turned whitecappers was rather approaching its decline as the governor stepped in to aid in prosecution when needed. Unfortunately, the KKK is still hanging around in some parts of the country.
