George Taliaferro will be inducted into the Monroe County Sports Hall of Fame on Friday. Taliaferro was born in Tennessee, attended high school in Gary, Indiana, and is a graduate of Indiana University. In the 1940s, he was a three time all American member of the Indiana football team and became the first African American player taken in the NFL draft when the Chicago Bears picked him in the 13th round in 1949. In 1972 he was hired as an assistant to the IU president and has remained in Bloomington with the university since that time.
