    3. Looking at my family in the 1940 census for Madison county, Indiana there are some mis-spelling of names and incorret dates and ages. How can these be corrected?     3. Census takers, back then, were paid per name, not for the correct spelling of the name. Goodness knows that I have family members in the census records with the names spelled no where near where they are supposed to be. Same goes with their ages and dates... If you are referring to Ancestry as being your source, once the transcription is complete, you have the option, on the left side of the screen, to do a correction -- doesn't mean that the census records will be corrected, but the correct spelling of the name will be attached to that transcription.
