Crawford County Democrat, February 7, 1900, from a book of compiled early obituaries at the Crawford County Public Library. DAVID JORDAN PASSES AWAY About six o'clock Monday evening, David Jordan, who has been lingering between life and death for many days, died at his home on Market Street of heart trouble, aged 78 years. He was born December 19 (difficult to read), 1821, at the old Jordan homestead four miles south of Corydon and moved to Corydon with his parents when nine years of age and has lived here ever since. For many years of his early manhood he operated a tannery and has since been engaged in merchandising as a harness dealer. He was six years county commissioner and, although many years ago, his administration is pointed to today as a model of official integrity and business tact. During all his long and useful life, in all his dealings with his fellow man, the universal verdict is that he never faltered but proved true and steadfast to every task (one illegible word) to him, measuring up to the standard of a pure and noble man. He was the father of seven children, four of whom are living, viz: Mrs. Mollie Whitton (difficult to read), D. A., C. C. and F. O. Jordan. He also leaves an aged companion and two brothers: Henry Jordan of Greencastle and Judge Lewis Jordan of Washington, D. C. Six grandchildren also survive him. His funeral will take place today at 10 o'clock from the family residence and his remains will be laid to rest in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
