Salem (IN) Democrat, November 18, 1898, p. 8. NOTE: Item was difficult to read. Diphtheria has again made its appearance in our midst and several families are afflicted. Wanda, the little girl of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Stevens has fully recovered. A three-year-old child of Mr. and Mrs. Sanford Standish is, at this writing, very low and death will surely follow. Two cases at the residence of William Thomas are doing well and not considered dangerous. The little girl of Dr. Radcliff, the dentist, has a serious and difficult case. Another case is reported in the family of Ed Spaulding and still another at Wes Graham's. The public schools were closed yesterday and all gatherings of a public nature should be carefully avoided until the danger line is crossed. Later-Mr. Standish's child died yesterday afternoon. A case has also developed at Tom Oliver's.
