    3. Thanks for the family search site - will give that a try. Cannot believe how much I've figured out in the last few days. Now to see if I can figure out if the Hardin and Quantrill families lived in the same area of Ohio. Elizabeth Harden always claimed she went to school with Quantil. We always assumed she as a student he as a teacher. But since she in 3 years older doubt that. So perhaps she met they were both students in a small rural school at the same time. If I can find both families in the same area of Ohio in the 1840 census that could be it. Nadine

There was no indication as to when and where he married or whether or not there were any children. Randi

He married Catherine Boling in Washington Co., IN on 22 May 1859. He died in the Civil War in Dalton, GA on 8 March 1865. He was in the 145th Indiana Inf., Co. B. His widow Catherine applied for a widow?s pension - Certificate #118.796. She remarried later to a James Owens and then applied for a minor?s pension for her Blevins children in 1870. I also have Blevins in my line, but I?ve not been able to connect them with the Indiana Blevins I?ve found. Keep hoping to pick up a tidbit about my husbands great grandfathers Snider, Blevins and Ruberson families who lived we think mostly in Crawford and Orange, and possibly Brown, Perry and some surrounding ones. Had never heard of whitecapping, but it kind of shows how live then. Told one of our friends one day that we were researching in that area and she said thats where I came from. Lived there till I was seven. And that her Dad's family (Waltman) had apprently been early settlers there. Something came through the list on Waltman the other day so am going to call and tell her. 3. Ancestry has all the Kansas Census records -- some of which go so far as to list the names of the parents of the adults in the house. Which, when it comes to finding female's maiden names, is informative. But like all census records, check, and re-check, because census workers were paid by the name, and usually went rather wild on their records. -----Original Message----- From: Nadine & Sid Snider Sent: Wednesday, May 16, 2012 10:31 PM To: in-south-central@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [IN-SOUTH-CENTRAL] Miller and Harden families Thanks Diane Think I was trying heritage quest for the census and Kansas was listed as being avialbe. 3. Hugh, Thanks so much for your kind words of support. I would like to say that I'm most familiar with the whitecapping events of Monroe County but have done some research in other Indiana counties and other states. It is my strong belief that as the concept of informal law enforcement became corrupt, that the focus was on personal vendettas and moral issues as opposed to racial or religious beliefs. The KKK was the group associated with the latter. By the 1920s, the horse thief detective association turned whitecappers was rather approaching its decline as the governor stepped in to aid in prosecution when needed. Unfortunately, the KKK is still hanging around in some parts of the country. 3. Diane Someone sent me some information about the Blevins and think that James might have been the name of our Matildas father. Haven't looked it up right now. But, think was James or William James and her name was Sarah. But, I don't have real proof of anything. All we know for sure is that when Matildas husband George died that there was a Danile Blevins acting as the administrator. How he might have been related have no idea And, thanks for suggesting the Kansas census. Found the Miller family and found that Aguustus Miller and Elizabeth Harden Miller were already married and also living in Kansas. Haven't been able to find the Harden family though yet. Nadine N
