    3. That's true, Nancy, but it is my understanding that once the indexing for all the states is complete, it will be provided to Ancestry for use on their subscription website for a number of years and then will be returned to FamilySearch and be free once again. I have this understanding based upon information provided by Michael Hall at the genealogy conference in Ft. Wayne this past April. 3. Don't think this is the same line our line is: George Washington Snider Jr born May 3. 1844 Orange County, Indiana. Died 1910 in Kansas His parents were George Washington Snider Sr. born 1820 in Rowan County, N.C. died July 1844 in Crawford County, Indiana - and Matilda Blevins. She then married Jonah L Ruberson in 1848 in Crawford County, Ind. and the family was living in MO by the 1850 census. George Sr's parents were David D Snider 1794-1843 and Barbara Workman 1801-1875. Barbara then married a Mr. Black. We found borth George Sr and David Snider's estate being settled in the 1840s in Crawford County. The line goes on back to: Lewis Snider 1772 - 1842 and Anna Garner Cornelious Schneider 1750-1804 and Anna Maria Ebert Melchoir Schneider and Jacobina Doerflinger. The last couple married on shipboard in 1842 on their way to America George Snider Jr was my husbands great grandfather. David and Barbara George Sr's parents had the follwing children Anna b. 1817 - Rowan County, NC George Washington Snider Sr. b - 1820 Rowan County, NC Elizabeth "Betsy" born 1822 Rowan County, NC Thomas born 1824 Rowan County NC Daniel F. born 13 Jan. 1826, Rowan County, NC John born 12 July, 1827 Rowan County, NC Andrew born 15 Oct 1829 Rowan County, NC Noah born 7 Mrch, 1832 in Rowan County, NC Mary born 1833 in Rowan County, NC Sarah "Sally" born 1837 in Rown County, NC Solomon born 1839 in Crawford Count. Indiana Phoebe Snider unknown Our George W. Snider was born in 1844 in Orange County, and this has confused us a bit as his parents were married in Crawford County, and they owned land there and his fathers estate was being settled there shortly after his birth. We found land records in the English courthouse that indicated that George Sr and Matilda Blevins sold 40 acres there on 10-30-1844 to a William T. Temple. Another 40 acres was sold on 7-15-1844. These acres were sold to his mother and her children: Barbary Snider, Elizabeth Lowe, Anna Sherron, David Snider, Thomas Snider, Andrew Snider, John Snider, Noah Snider, Solomon Snider, Sarah Snider and Mary Snider - Some of the children would have been minors at the time. Can't find it right now, but think that Anna's husband was Jehu Sherron. Our George and Matilda had one older son named Daniel F. Snider. He seems to have moved to Montana. Nadine

Ironic, I have Lynch and Conrad in my line - and I know what you mean about the names.... -----Original Message----- From: gftl Sent: Wednesday, June 20, 2012 5:24 PM To: in-south-central@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [IN-SOUTH-CENTRAL] 1940 Indiana Census Now Online Unfortunately, I'm not surprised. Pages to be indexed were randomly made available by FamilySearch to volunteers rather than trying to make them available to those with a familiarity with a given area. That is the reason my contribution to the indexing project was very minimal. On the other hand, I have worked with the 1940 Monroe County Census to create my own index and have been able to corroborate information with a 1940 city directory. Today I was working with the 1920 Crawford County census at Ancestry made available by FamilySearch some time ago. I looked at 18 pages for Jennings Township, District 26. On EVERY page I made one or more corrections to the name so that the next person can more easily locate someone. A majority were transcription errors like Lynde for Lynch, Coward for Conrad, Reilman for Keilman, Hauger for Hanger, Pam for Parr. If we all took the time to make corrections when we come across errors in the online census records , it would be a big help in enriching the data. In the meantime, we need to search creatively which is not always quick or easy. 3. Census takers, back then, were paid per name, not for the correct spelling of the name. Goodness knows that I have family members in the census records with the names spelled no where near where they are supposed to be. Same goes with their ages and dates... If you are referring to Ancestry as being your source, once the transcription is complete, you have the option, on the left side of the screen, to do a correction -- doesn't mean that the census records will be corrected, but the correct spelling of the name will be attached to that transcription. Hope that this helps! Anyway found my husband as a four year old in the Kansas census but listed as Snidey Snider instead of Sidney Snider. I admit Snidey Snider is reather eyecatching. But, if hadn't checked his parents names after I couldn't find him would have been up stump creek without a paddle. Nadine
