GIRL'S ELECTRICAL INVENTION Columbus, Indiana, April 22-An electric device has just been invented by Dora Ogden, manager of the Western Union office at this place, by which steam whistles are to be blown by electricity, the current passing through an electric clock. By this device every factory whistle in the city, or in the United States for that matter, can be sounded simultaneously. The whistle may be set to blow at any hour desired, and it is believed that many manufacturing establishments will adopt and use it.

    3. New Orleans (LA) Times-Picayune, June 17, 1879, p. 6. NOTE: Consider Christianson a spelling variant of Christeson. LEPROSY IN INDIANA [St. Louis Globe-Democrat] Salem, Indiana, June 10-A fully developed case of leprosy exists in our county. The name of the leper is Christeson (sic), and she lives twelve miles north of here. Her skull in places has actually decayed away so that the brains have protruded and been removed. The bones of the leg have gradually decayed until they are only from one-quarter to one-third their natural size. She is, as it were, a walking pestilence. The physicians say that it is a real case of leprosy. The unfortunate person has been a resident of this county for thirty years.

Both belong to our oldest and best families, and the affair was a notable society event and was witnessed by many friends of the parties from this town and New Albany. Numerous and beautiful bridal presents, and a very gay reception.

There was a family feud existing between the parties, caused by a lawsuit.

Robertson, David Kirkpatrick and another were hunting ducks along the backwater of the Muscatituck River up Delaney's Creek. They had a skiff and had put their guns in it, muzzle out. One of them stepped in upon the end of a loose plank and turned the rifle over, the hammer hitting the plank and discharging the contents of the rifle. The ball passed entirely through Robertson's head killing him instantly. He was a prominent citizen and greatly respected.
