DEATH CLAIMS WILLIAM PERRY EASTON, AGED 53 William Perry Easton, a native of Monroe County and a former grocer of this city, died yesterday morning at 5:30 at his home in Sanborn, following almost three months' illness. The immediate cause of his death was leakage of the heart and enlargement of the liver. Mr. Easton was a native born at Stinesville in 1858, the son of William G. and Virginia Easton, pioneer residents of the county. He was 53 years of age at the time of his death and is survived by a widow and four children, Misses Clen and Winnie, daughters, and sons Richard and George. Three brothers, all prominent citizens, are residents of Stinesville. Mr. Easton resided for some eight years in Linton and was engaged in the grocery business a portion of this time. He was also a partner with Virgil Robertson for a time in the coal business and was a citizen respected and admired for his sterling qualities. Politically Mr. Easton was a staunch Democrat and came from a family of Democrats, standing always high in the councils of his party. He was not a member of any organizations, but was a Presbyterian. March the first, last, Mr. Easton moved his family to Sanborn where he took charge of a hotel. A few days after he was taken ill and was bedfast with the exception of some four days, until the time of his death. The funeral party left Sanborn at 7 o'clock this morning for Stinesville, where the services will be held at the Christian church at 10 o'clock, in charge of the Rev. A. C. Trusty. Salem (Indiana) Washington Democrat, June 26, 1857, page 2. Adam Bundy, an old and esteemed citizen residing a few miles north west of this place, was thrown from a wagon which his son was driving, on Monday evening last, and seriously injured, a portion of his skull being fractured, it is thought however that he will recover. Like most accidents, this seems to have been the result of sheer carelessness and were it not for its serious consequences would appear ridiculous. It appears that there was no bed on the wagon except a sand [?]-bed made of loose plank and young Bundy, who we understand is but a boy, was standing on the front part of this bed in an empty barrel driving, and in going down a rocky hill, the barrel and boy both pitched forward on the double tree and against the horses, which of course, frightened them. The boy was not much hurt. Constance T. Bedford (IN) Independent, August 7, 1856, page 2 OBITUARY. DIED, in Bedford, Lawrence county, Ind., on Friday morning at 3 o'clock, WINTHROP FOOTE, M.D., after a lingering illness, in the 89th year of his age. The simple record of the death of such a man is not enough. It is due that his many and manly virtues be recorded as an incentive to like worth. He was a man of much energy and firmness of character, upright in his dealings with others, and a citizen whose loss is deeply deplored, and whose place will not soon be supplied. As a practitioner he stood second to none--sharing a more full and complete confidence of the community than is common. Nor was their confidence unmerited or misplaced; his success in the treatment of disease fully entitled him to it. As a scholar he was thoroughly practical, as well as scientific. As a man, a citizen, and a neighbor, his character was without reproach. May his many noble deeds and virtues live in the memory of his friends, while his few follies be forgotten, as he was only mortal. His remains were deposited in the vault east of town, followed by the bereaved family and a numerous concourse of sympathizing friends. G. W. J., M.D. Constance T.
