    1. [IN-SOUTH-CENTRAL] Important Upcoming Events
    2. Randi Richardson
    3. The Lawrence County Historical Society in Bedford makes Halloween a special event with a different and true mystery re-enactment every year. I'm so sorry that I have to miss this because I will be out of town. If you are close to Bedford, this interesting program is well worth your time. For more information, contact the Historical Society. Tickets are now on sale at the museum for "Murder Among Friends", our Historic Walk, Haunted Talk and Light Supper on the evening of October 26 at the First Christian Church in Bedford. This event focuses on the 1866 murder of well-known preacher, teacher and author Madison Evans by his friend, Civil War surgeon, state senator and prominent Bedford citizen Dr. Benjamin Newland. We will walk (or drive, if you prefer) to a number of sites relevant to the story and hear costumed re-enactors tell their part of this story that shocked our whole community. After the walk you can enjoy a supper of soup, cornbread and dessert and hear what Believe Paranormal discovered in their investigation of the murder location. Tickets are $20, $15 for seniors 65 and over and $10 for kids under 12. We are also happy to discuss reduced rates for groups. The second (and overlapping) event is a special opportunity to research at the Allen County Public Library in Ft. Wayne on October 26 until midnight. The library, the second largest genealogy in the world, typically closes at 6 PM. If I understand correctly, it will reopen at 6:30 for anyone wanting to do research. Then the doors will lock again. Patrons can then leave whenever they like, but once they leave they will not be able to get back in. And they can stay until midnight if they so desire. For more information, contact the library.

The wedding occurred in the commodious residence of the bride's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse A. Mitchell, and the parlors were handsomely decorated with holly, mistletoe and ferns with many shaded lights to enhance the effect. Miss Nellie Mitchell is one of Bedford's fairest and sweetest daughters and is a representative of one of the oldest and best families. All who know her admire her for her beauty of mind and person. She is the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Mitchell and the idol of her brother. Mr. Kent is English by birth, but he has shown his preference for America by choosing for his wife one of her beautiful daughters. The porter was sent after the marshal who hustled in the direction of the hotel, meeting Mrs. Thomas on the way. She carried the pistol in her right hand in her jacket pocket, and Russell saw the gleam of the handle and grabbing her arm took the weapon away from her and placed her under arrest.
