It cost Sarah $284.67 to pursue George E. Kourtner through the courts to recover an equivalent for her blasted affections. George says he wasn't Kourtner at all and admonishes her not to Ripperdam head off over the matter.

GOES WET Posey Township Steps Out of Dry Column Posey Township in Harrison County, twenty miles southwest of this city, yesterday slipped out of the dry column and took a position with the wets. A local option election was held, and the township gave a wet majority of35. The township has been dry for the past four years, remonstrances having put the drinking places out of business. Elizabeth is the only place of importance in the township, and several applications for retail licenses have been filed with the county commissioners.

She was an aunt of Mrs. Ruth E. Funk of this place who attended the funeral. Mrs. Torrence and her daughter, Emma Gordon, visited Mrs. Funk a few years ago and are known to a number of Corydon people.

Bulleit & Son Company as a bookkeeper and stenographer, has tendered his resignation that will take effect April 1. Mr. Gerdon has accepted a position with the John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company as district manager with Southern Indiana as his territory. He has been working in insurance for some little time and has decided to devote his entire time to it. His office will be in the Courner (sic) Drug Store building.

Mrs. Ed Bosier of Louisville was called to the bedside of her sister, Mrs. Mabel Fink, in New Castle, Pa., who underwent a serious operation in the Shenango Valley Hospital on February 23. Mrs. Fink is slowly recovering. Before returning to her home in Louisville, Mrs. Bosier will visit another sister, Mrs. H. C. Fink, in Rochester, Pa. Mrs. Bosier is a former resident of this county.

NINE-YEAR-OLD BOY TAKING PASTEUR TREATMENT Charles Stewart, the nine-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Stewart of Posey Township was bitten last Sunday afternoon by a dog that was supposed to be afflicted with hydrophobia. A doctor was called to the Stewart home and cauterized the wound, and last Tuesday, at the doctor's suggestion, the little fellow was taken to Indianapolis by his mother where he will remain for two or three weeks taking the Pasteur treatment. Rose Lee Ulmer, a three-year-old girl, was also bitten by the same dog and was also taken to Indianapolis.

DROPS DEAD Emil Kaltofen, a Baker of This Place, Dies Suddenly in Louisville Emil Kaltofen, a baker at Meeche's Baker in this place, died in a restaurant in Louisville last Sunday afternoon very suddenly. Food he ordered had just been placed before him. The waiter, seeing him fall, raised him to his chair and water was dashed in his face in an attempt to revive him. He died before the arrival of the city ambulance. The deceased was born in Germany and had been employed here for several months. He had a brother residing in Louisville. He was about 60 years of age.

DEATH OF ISAAC LETTERMAN Former Resident of This County Dies in Louisville Isaac Letterman, former resident of Heth Township, this county, died last Tuesday at his home in Louisville. At the time of his death he was in his 78th year. Mr. Letterman left this county thirteen years ago. During his residence here he drove a huckster wagon over the southern end of the county and was well known to hundreds of people. His wife Mrs. Sarah Letterman, died shortly before he went to Louisville. The funeral took place yesterday from the home of the deceased, and interment took place in Cave Hill Cemetery.

OLD COLORED CITIZEN DELIVERS INERESTING LECTURE Isaiah Mitchem, one of the oldest colored citizens in southern Indiana, gave an interesting lecture at the colored church Saturday evening, March 6. His subjects were "The First Colored Child to Enter the Public Schools in Corydon," and "The Sweetest after I am Gone." He gave the name of the first colored child to enter school here as Eli Welsh, and told many interesting stories about that early time. Miss Nettie Perry, one of the workers in the A. M. E. Sunday school read a paper prepared by Mr. Mitchem on "Our Needs of Today." The other part of the program consisted of songs, music and recitations. Mr. Mitchem is an interesting character and has a clear recollection of the early days of Corydon.

ELIZABETH WRIGHT Dies Suddenly in Lanesville Last Sunday Mrs. Elizabeth Wright, widow of the late James Wright, died last Sunday night at her home in Lanesville after an illness of about thirty minutes. She had been living alone for quite a long time. The deceased was about 85 years of age and had been a resident of this county practically all her life. The funeral was held Tuesday from the Methodist Church at Lanesville and burial took place in the Lanesville Cemetery. Rev. Jean, pastor of the M. E. Church, conducted the funeral. She was a highly esteemed lady.

    3. New Albany (IN) Evening Tribune, August 8, 1911, p. 4. OLD RESIDENT DIES John O. Greene Passes Away Last Evening John O. Greene, an old resident of the city and county, died last evening at 5:40 o'clock at the family residence on Silver Hills. He had been in failing health for the past two years and several weeks ago sustained a fall at his home which caused paralysis and since then he had been confined to his bed. He was 88 years old and was a native of Harrison County. He located in this city when a young man and practice law in the Floyd circuit court for many years, retiring to his farm nearly a quarter of a century ago. He leaves a wife and one daughter, Miss Alice Greene. He is also survived by one brother, Jacob Green (sic) of Chillicothe, Mo. For years he was prominent in local politics and during the Greenback movement nearly 40 years ago his political writings attracted much attention. He also was an author of several books. The last of his stories, entitled "The Kewankus People," was issued about 20 years ago. It was a narrative of an imaginary trip to the North Pole and the theories advanced by the author caused much comment at the time. The funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the late home of Mr. Greene, and the burial will be at Fairview Cemetery.

WILD WEST Jeff Bishop Turns a Gun Loose and Is Arrested Jeff Bishop, living on Chartres between Clark and Fifteenth streets, terrorized the neighborhood of Chartres and Vincennes Street this morning by promiscuously discharging a revolver. The gun was emptied at intervals and several persons narrowly escaped being shot, one bullet missing Letter Carrier John Griefe by only a few inches as he passed along Chartres Street. Telephone messages brought Patrolmen Adams and Waterhouse to the scene, and Bishop was taken into custody. He said he had intended going to Louisville to kill a negro. He already has one notch in his gun having recently been released from Michigan City where he served a term for manslaughter.

Eugene Lockman, a young lad, was playing with a bottle of gun powder and a handful of matches yesterday afternoon, and the natural result followed. After the noise of the explosion had died away, it was found that the boy was badly cut and burned about the face, hands and legs and his right thumb was nearly severed by a fragment of glass. He was attended by Dr. C. W. Stolzer. He is a son of Mrs. Bertha Lockman of Cincinnati who is visiting her parents.
