Author: MargaretHobson Surnames: Classification: military Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/topics.Military.civwar.uscwin.civilwar/1910/mb.ashx Message Board Post: CIVIL WAR REGIMENTAL HISTORY VOLUME 3 IS FINISHED This 585-page book is part three of a three part series and follows The Iron Men of Indiana's 44th Regiment, Part 1: Biographies and Regimental Statistics and The Voice of Indiana's 44th Regiment, Part 2: Formation and Photos. Part 3 is an intimate, firsthand account in the citizen-soldiers' uncensored words, including those offensive to our modern ear, drawn from letters, diaries, newspaper accounts, military reports, memoirs, and out-of-copyright books covering the Battles of Fort Donelson, Shiloh, Stones River and Chickamauga. It then follows the soldiers into their Provost Marshal duties in Chattanooga. "Through the voices which you've collected and compiled, you've allowed us to know them as more than a regiment. You've allowed us to know them as people caught up in something much bigger than themselves. You've allowed us to see them at their best and, yes, sometimes at much less than their best. Throughout you've let their voices give us an honest picture of their patriotism, their courage, their foibles, and their weaknesses. They are real people." This series of books has been a labor of love for the past 20 years. The book is $41, including postage. Please contact me via email (CW44thIndiana@aol.com) for additional information. The History of Henry County indicates that Benjamin F Trail was killed at Petersburg Va on July 30, 1864 and James died at Corpus Christi Tx on Sept 24, 1865, both buried where they died. William survived and was mustered out (discharged) on Nov 8, 1865. It appears David also survived only to die in Henry county on Apr 16, 1869. Hope this helps. Wiggs to Joseph W. Wiggs which was his son. This document was written in Jan 1913 in Winslow Indiana, Has been in my family for generations. He talks briefly his service days about the southern slave owners and the fight between north and south, the he goes on to talk about his family. One of his children is my grandfather. He also talks about Alexander M. Wiggs, he served as a justices of peace during two terms, of 4 years each, was elected to state 4 years covering sessions of 1891-1893 and served three years in the union army. George W. Wiggs was a blacksmith and served between 1863-1865. Benijamin F. Wiggs served between Aug 29 1862 to October 12 1862, which I find to be odd because did he get out? or Die?. If you have any more information, pictures or documents, please share them with me, This is my generation of family. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
