    3. In fact all Roosweb lists are being inactivated and archived. I am shocked about this. We've been sharing information and helping one another on the lists for many years. Thank you subscribers and contributors over these 20+ years. Some of these tech lists never took off and I presume will not be missed. Here is the text of the announcement to all of us listowners: Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After > that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on > RootsWeb. > As an alternative to RootsWeb Mailing Lists, Ancestry message boards are a > great option to network with others in the genealogy community. 1. [IO-Help] Rootsweb lists are alive again!
    2. Valorie Zimmerman
    3. Hello everybody, After some months, RootsWeb mailing lists are up and running on updated software. A few things are changed, some for the better. One of the items currently being addressed is why messages from subscribers are not always going directly to the list. Sometimes these posts are being held for administrative action. This could be because the poster - although subscribed to the list - may not be registered with RootsWeb. So my advice is to register with RootsWeb. It takes only a few moments and might fix the posting issues. Instructions: http://home.rootsweb.ancestry.com/listindexes/setupmail If you had an account set up before, you can use the same email and username, but you *must* choose a new password. If you are an Ancestry member, please do not use the same password as you use there. One of the great things about registering is that you will be able to control many things about your list mail from Rootsweb without contacting the listowner. All the best, Valorie list admin -- http://about.me/valoriez

    3. Working with the images has gotten a lot easier. It seems to work without our having to make any adjustment. I was having a problem uploading pictures. I solved my problem, but it still takes me longer than it should. Thanks for writinng. Lori On Sat, 2011-09-17 at 18:30 -0400, Mary D. 3. Hello. I hope I'm in the right place. I don't want to add too many details of my stupid actions, but last night I scanned a picture to my flash drive with the intention of uploading it to Ancestry. I clicked on the wrong image. I didn't want it attached to the wrong person and I was unable to find the option to delete it. I saw an option to hide the image. The incorrect image is hidden, and so are all my other images from weeks ago, even those I have copied from other people. I reloaded the correct image this morning and it too is hidden. If I click on the caption, I can see it, but it does not appear automatically. The "box" is empty. I have looked at every screen and clicked on all the settings I can find. I can't find the option I used to hide the images. Any help appreciated. Lori

    3. Patty, What was incorrect about it? I intended my message to go to the IMAGES-ONLINE-HELP mailing list, which is exactly what happened. It is my understanding that this question would be on topic for this list. So I'm confused by your statement that this was directed to the incorrect address. 3. Patty, If you received Mary's emails and its responses, it's because you are subscribed to the Images-Online-Help mailing list. As Mary noted, the mailing list is very inactive and has had no traffic recently, so you would not have received similar messages for quite a while. If you don't want to be on this list you can unsubscribe by clicking on one of the links in the "Unsubscribing" paragraph of this website: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~valorie/Images-Online-Help -L.htm > -----Original Message----- > From: images-online-help-bounces@rootsweb.com > [mailto:images-online-help-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of > Patty Peery > Sent: Monday, July 28, 2008 7:03 AM > To: images-online-help@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [IO-Help] Image loading problem? > > I"m not Images OnLine. 3. The purpose of this list is "help, discussion and sharing information about using the Ancestry Images Online, where one can view and print documents that have traditionally been stored on microfilm or in a limited number of archives and libraries (such as census records), for genealogical and family research." First sentence from page "Resources for list members": http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~valorie/Images-Online-Help-L.htm My hubby is the big user of the scanner, and he recommends the website: http://www.scantips.com/ In general, you get a better scan from inside a image editing program such as photoshop than just using the button on the scanner. In other words, you can start up photoshop, and use the scan menu there to control exactly what part of the scanner area you want scanned. Plus you can control your image size there, and then compact the image once it is the way you want it. Once the image has been saved, you just attach the image file to an email and send. What difficulties are you having? Valorie On Wednesday 27 September 2006 1:13 am, Julie Ross wrote: > Valorie, What exactly is this site used for? 1. [IO-Help] Safe on the other side, & Special note to Digest subscribers
    2. Valorie Zimmerman
    3. Hi all, it seems that our list has been migrated to the new system, and all is well. Please report any problems privately, to the -admin address (listname-admin@rootsweb.com, no -L, no -D). And speaking of no -L, no -D: if you have not yet added our listname without the -L to your addressbook, do so now while you are thinking of it. Don't remove the old one yet, since some people will still use the old address, and that will work for awhile. *** If you are an AOL subscriber, it is *crucial* that you put the new list address in your addressbook. *** Now, Digests -- you can no longer subscribe to both the list posts and the digests with the same email address. If you formerly were, you have lost one or the other at this point. Because of the way that the new list software handles the lists, you will have to sub to the other mode with an alternate address. If you need a free gmail account, write to me at valorie dot zimmerman at gmail dot com and I will send you an invitation. Hotmail and Yahoo will also work. If you are subbed one way and prefer the other, drop me a note at the -admin address and I'll change you over. Soon you will be able to do this for yourself, plus various other stuff, which is very exciting! Finally, if you like the way the digests now arrive, great! If you would prefer MIME digests, which are easier for some OE users, please drop a note to the -admin address and I will change you over to MIME digests. It takes just a sec, so don't hesitate to ask. Valorie
