While looking over a list of passengers who came to the US aboard the bark Gerhard which arrived in New Orleans 6 Nov 1857, I noticed that many, many of the surnames were the same as many families who ended up in Woodford Co, IL. So I created a little project for myself and am now trying to trace the people who shared that voyage and see if it leads to anything. If anyone had relatives on that vessel and wouldn't mind sharing information about those families (just that generation), I would be very pleased to hear from you. Names are as they appear in the Germans to America book. I'm awaiting a photocopy of the manifest to see if I make out the names any differently than they were transcribe for GTA. I've put what I consider to be more accurate spellings of some surnames I am familiar with in parentheses.
