    2. Ellen Rowan Taylor
    3. Thought I would share a New Year's entry from 112 years ago. This one drives me crazy-Charley was my grandfather. What in the world did he tell her? Enjoy, and Happy New Year 2001 to all. (wonder what Cora would think if she knew we were all reading her diary New Year's Eve, 2001. I hope she would approve, but she probably wouldn't) Cora's grand niece, Ellen Rowan Taylor "A Christmas present from Charley to Cora Rowan December 1888. January 1 1888 To day begins the new year. I was home this forenoon but came back to my boarding place this evening. It has been very dissagreeable to day from a cold SW wind.Although Sunday, I have been busy all day. Have been studying since supper. ) Charley told me something which surprised me greatly. (How changefull the human mind.) (mw) Mon Jan 2 Rose at 7 and made my bed before breakfast. About ten o’clock Prof. Kirk came very unexpectedly to visit the school. He spoke to the children awhile. Talked quite a time before leaving at noon. Gave his apporval of my methods of teaching reading and history, also arith. Begged me not to give up teaching. Came home as soon as school closed-Why? (e.c.stopped) Very bad cold & headache. Invited to dance. Tuesday Jan 3 Rose 6:30. Made bed before breakfast. Went to school and swept. All has passed very pleasantly today. Dome good work done. Knit on mittons before supper. Studied and knit after supper till 9+.A man’s sled upset with a load of wood on it this even. Did not speak to the large boys much to day-What a pity. I do wonder if they are past all hope." Any teachers out there with "large boy students"? The more things change, the more they stay the same. :-)
