Webber sold a car load of fat cattle to James Strickland, of Colfax Monday. -- James Sutton has sold his farm here to Wm. Yerk, of Palestine tsp. -- The box social given by Miss Clara Claussen and pupils, of the Cram school, on Friday evening of last week was well attended. Roanoke --------- -- Dorsey Camper left Sat morning for Lee County -- William Martin and wife have been visiting at Wolcott, Ind -- Mathias Poluski has moved to the farm vacated by Jacob Hautgardner -- John Sauder, jr, and brother Frank, are visiting at Hill Top, Kansas -- Gottlieb Stoler has contracted to purchase the Rapp property on Broad street -- Andrew Rosenthal and family, of Iowa, are visiting with John Johnson and family -- W.A. Herbst has moved into the village and is now clerking in the Herbst store -- Theofield Herbst has take charge of the bakery business puchased of Fred Hessing -- Miss Irene McGrail, of Gibson City, has been visiting her uncle, John Hester, and family -- R.H. Switzer and wife and Mrs Amanda Kindig have been visiting in Iowa the past week -- Mrs Elsaeser, a former resident of this vicinity, died at her home hear Princeville on Jan 2 -- Albert Rodgers is now located in Floriday where he expects to remain for the rest of the winter -- William Heikt and family have moved into town from the home place. He is now working at the store -- A large number ofpeople from here attended the funerals of Mrs Hugh and Mrs Hagenbusher in Peoria Friday -- V.D. Brown and family, who are visitng near Henry, are taking care of the Rouse farm while they make a several weeks' visit -- Miss Emma Hellwig is taking a vacation from her duties as sales lady in the store and visiting her parents near Metamora -- Adolph Bill and family have moved into the William heedt residence to keep house until the latter's wife returns from the hospital -- Mrs William VanScyoe, of Palestine two, has gone to CA to visit her sister, Mrs W.W. <McCord and Mrs Rudolph Wilson -- Morton Pierce, who is in the army with headquarters at NY City, whose home is at Mt. Vernon, is visiting at the home of William Porch -- Adolph Bill jumped frm a wagon last Saturday, stepping into a hole and tearing the tendons of one leg. He has to use a crutch in order to get around -- William Haverstine, of Fillmore, Neb, has been calling on old friends here the past week. -- Mrs H. Aufdenspring died at Streator on Jan5. Interment was made at Minonk, where she resided for many years. One son, William is located at Middleton -- John O'Briend was driver boss at the mine during James mitchell's absence at his aunt's funeral. James Laffin is now face boss and George Dewilde is tracker layer in his place -- Daniel Steffin bought a team of horses at the horse sale Saturday and is getting ready to move to his farm in Patridge twp. -- Joseph Ryland, who formerly worked at the tile yard here as manager, was married in Chicago on the 1st of December to Miss Grave Weiland -- Amos and Joel Yorde attended the farmers' institute at Minonk and El Paso Thurs and Fri. -- A fire alarm was sent in from Will Leconte's residence Thursday -- Frank Martine is having 30 arces of timber land cleared on the farm recently purchased. -- William Leconte experienced difficulties while battling the fire at his residence some days ago. He had no time to put on clothes or shoes and had to go over to the Preiss residence with a bucket to get water. On the way to the garet, he had to walk over broken glass -- Harry Cornick, of Hayward, Wi, is visiting O.N. Ffisher. Mr Cornick conducts a hunting and fishing resort in the norther part of his state. -- Theofield Herbst has engaged to buy from Peter Kennel the property at the corner of Woodford and Davidson streets, known at the Hubbell harness shop. -- A tramp giving the name of John Ryan was taken in custody Tuesday being charged with stealing some clothing and other articles from the display in front of Olarnick and Tobias' store. -- Local talent will give "Tempest and Sunshine" at the opera house on Jan 16. The cast is "Joshua Middleton" P.J. Husseman; "Richard Miller" T.P. Pettigre; "Dr. George Lacey:" George Collins; "Dick Dunn and the Minister" Ralph Darnell; "Juber: John O'Brien; "Julia" Miss Fay Porch; "Fannie Middleton" Katherin Hester; "Miss Middleton" Miss Leta Brown -- Mrs McFarland, of Toluca and a sister of Mrs James Mitchell, of this place, died on Jan 5. She never recovered from the scare she got some time ago when her house took fire, since which time she has graadually failed. Mrs Mitchell and sons, John, James, Alex and Archie, Mr and Mrs Daniel Steffin, and Mr and Mrs JB Grider, of Roanoke, attended the funeral which took place Sunday. Dixon has purchased the Toxel residence property just north of the Journal building -- George H. Eft and Miss Florence E. Lee were married at the home of the bride's parents, Mr and Mrs W.C. Lee at 11 am Wed. -- D.A. Strother attened the funeral of Thomas H. Lindsay in Peoria Tuesday and was one of the pall bearers.
