While looking through the posts for Woodford Co on Genforum today, I was touched by a message sent in by a woman in Holland. I wrote to her and asked if it would be okay for me to forward her message to this list, in an effort to get it to as many people as possible who might be able to help, and she wrote back saying, "Of course you can and thank you very much". Here's the post: mr.Duane E.Ellis born 28 okt.1917 in Clayton TWP Woodford CO IL KIA 24 mar.1945 in Germany. Burried on Margraten Holland. son of Forrest W.Ellis and Myrtle Mae Ricketts He was married to mrs.Liliane Stewart. Maybe there are children too. The Ellenbroek-family here in Holland take care of his grave from day 1 . They like to have contact with a relative If anyone is able to help with any information, please write to Mrs Fietje Quaedvlieg at sojorki@home.nl In the case that someone can help, could you also let nosey ol' me know? <G> I would love to know the rest of the story on this. Thanks, Amy Robbins-Tjaden atjaden@mindspring.com Researching just about every family from Ostfriesland that ever stepped foot inside of Woodford Co!
Karen Could you please include the approximate time frame ( i.e. 1850 or 1930 or whatever) and where you think they may have been with your request for information? These items are nearly a must for anyone to make a reasonable search for information. Looking for information about a Hinrich and Johanna Gerdes. Might a Dottie Antolik be a member of this list? These people connect with an ABELS family - Karen Nelson Hangsleben
Do you have a time frame for these families you're looking for information about? I'll be glad to look in the few resources I have for them if I know beforehand that it won't be a total waste of time because of dates. Any chance you know of a J. J. Carsten or Carstens who married Anna Aden? All I have on J. J. is what you see here. I have found out plenty about the Aden family that went from Ostfriesland to Woodford Co and then on to NE but this J. J. is a mystery. If anyone is looking for information about this Aden family, feel free to write and I'll be glad to share what I have. Amy Robbins-Tjaden atjaden@mindspring.com Hoping that someone on this list might recognize this couple as family! Clara was the dau. of Herman and Augusta Carstens Hoffman. Would love shared info on all three families

I want to say thank you to the people who have given me ideas on finding my Feriters in St. Mary's Cemetery. I have found them thanks to all of you. This list is a great one. Audrey.
Audrey-- The El Paso History webpage at http://www.elpaso.net/~bank/elpasohistory/index.htm has burials listed for St. Mary's cemetery. They are taken from readings of the stones rather than actual records. There are a number of "Feriter"s listed. There is another page, http://www.elpasoil.org/woodford/publish/index.html which also has the St. Mary's listings. Click on the link for "Township Links" and select "Panola" on the map. St. Mary's is actually in Panola Twp. I've read that it was originally begun as a place to bury those "undesirable" Irish Catholics, away from the good "American" Catholics who are buried in St. Joseph cemetery in El Paso proper. ;-) The address for the church is : St. Mary's Church P.O. Box 197 79 W. Third St. El Paso, IL 61738 The sexton for the cemetery is: Tim Kearney R.R. 1 El Paso, Il 61738 Hope this helps. Charlotte-- The El Paso History webpage has a section on the railroads in "The El Paso Story" section (pgs. 44-49). The URL is: http://www.elpaso.net/~bank/elpasohistory/index.htm. Briefly, the first scheduled train on this section of the Illinois Central (north-south) was May 23, 1853 and the tracks for the Peoria and Oquawka (later TP&W, the east-west line) were completed to the junction with the IC at El Paso on April 1, 1856. There are some Millers listed in the biographical and genealogical information section, including one from Germany, but can't tell if he might have any connection to your Miller. I have a John MILLER (MULLER), who was born in Germantown, Worth Township, Woodford County, Illinois, on August 4, 1874. He married Anna Mary MEISTER on March 24, 1900, at Catholic church in Lourdes, Woodford County. John's occupation was as a carpenter. He was buried on October 18, 1949, in St. Joseph's Cemetery in West Peoria, Illinois. John was the son of Peter and Catherine (nee BERGMANN) MULLER. Thanks! Kevin

The Woodford County Atlas for 1873 shows the Illinois Central Railroad running north South through Panola. It also shows the TP&W (Toledo, Peoria & Western) Railroad East West through Eureka and El Paso. North of Panola there was also the Chicago Pekin and Southwestern Railroad through Eureka and Roanoke that later became the Sante Fe Railroad. Hope this helps a bit... What more do you have on your John Miller? My GGRandfather John Miller married Elizabeth Martin 18 Mar 1860 and died 5 Nov 1865. He was 'from Germany' and probably a farmer but I do not know. I've not found him on the Census or any records other than his marriage license so far. Who were his parents and siblings? He reputedly had relatives in Congerville and Gridley area but who? Do I have any cousins from that line? Any help greatly appreciated. John E Fischer Cincinnati OH
Charlotte, the Illinois Central ran North-South thru Panola. It was chartered in 1851 to run from Cairo to Galena. The line was finished in 1856. The Toledo, Peoria and Western ran East-West thru El Paso 3 miles south of Panola. It was chartered in 1852 to run from Peoria to the Ill-Ind State Line. It's original name was the Peoria & Oquawka Eastern Extension Railroad. It was completed in 1860. Mike Flock's wrote: > > Hi, > Could any one tell me when the railroad was built south of Panola. Hi, Could any one tell me when the railroad was built south of Panola. I'm trying to track down a ancestor who was working on the railroad. His name is John Miller b. abt 1831 Prussia. Charlotte
Would you mind looking in these publications for a mention of either the HOFFMAN or the CARSTEN(s) families? Perhaps they might have a mention in a Co. history. They married 1890 (Gustav and Johanna "Jennie" Carstens Hoffman). I'm out of state and would appreciate the look/see. Please email me privately so as not to clutter the list. Thanks, Karen Nelson Hangsleben
I've located 10 members of my Hoffman/Carsten families buried at Minonk Twnshp Cem.. I'd like to get obits - where most likely would I have found them published and where might I call/write for copies? Also looking for death certificates - County clerk's office - how much do they charge for non-certified copies? Thanks for any suggestions of what else might be available and where. Karen
This site has some good suggestions for anyone interested. You might want to forward it to other lists that you are on. http://www.savinggraves.com/cleaning.htm GraveNews2@aol.com Lou in Indiana
