    1. Re: [ILWOODFO-L] Pickard & Gaisfords of Minonk
    2. Amy, Thanks for the offer to look up families. Do you have anything listed for Alfred Pickard (b. September 9, 1817) and Sophia (Bartlett) Pickard (b. November 25, 1821) or their children: Thomas Davey, Frank Job, George, Jane (Lockwood), Joseph, Anne (Vilven), Edward, Alma (Ridge), Louisa (Rucker), Ellen Sophia (Gaisford), James, or James Alfred? They immigrated to Minonk, Illinois, in 1865, from Southwick, Wiltshire, England. The brothers owned and operated the Pickard Brothers' Farm and Machinery Store at Minonk, Illinois. It was a blacksmith shop, buggy repair, farm machinery store, and paint store. I'm also looking for information on James Gaisford, Sr. (b. October 3, 1817) and Anna (Rich) Gaisford (b. 1820) or their children: Emma Jane (Bailey), Charles William (called Henry), James Jr., Hannah Merie (Pickard), William, Anna (Pickard), Samuel, and Jene H. They immigrated to Minonk, Illinois, in the late 1850s or the early 1860s. They came from Hilperton, Wiltshire, England, which is really close to Southwick, Wiltshire, England. Thanks, Cindy Pickard

    1. [ILWOODFO-L] Lookup - MOORE & WHITE, Eureka
    2. Amy: What a generous and thoughtful offer. Thank you. I am interested in the MOORE family, starting with Lena, born in 1869 to Luther MOORE and Sarah V. SCEARCH in Eureka. I am also interested in the WHITE family. Lena married William WHITE on Christmas Day, 1888, in Eureka. He, according to family legend worked on the railroad and was killed in an accident between 1894-1897. He was supposedly born in Washington, in Tazewell County in c. 1864. My understanding is these towns are not that far apart, so his parents, Embers WHITE and Emma (y) THOMPSON could have been from Woodford. Any help you could give would be sincerely appreciated. 1. [ILWOODFO-L] Past and Present of Woodford Co
    2. Amy Robbins-Tjaden
    3. If you would please put the surname of the person you're interested in in the subject line, it would be easier for me to do these lookups for you as I'm sometimes looking for many families at the same time. I would also encourage people to post their interests to the list at the same time they're sending email to me (and I've already received a few). This way others may see who you are interested in and may be able to help you more than I can. Thanks! Amy Robbins-Tjaden atjaden@mindspring.com

    1. [ILWOODFO-L] Past and Present of Woodford Co
    2. Amy Robbins-Tjaden
    3. Hi-- I bought an early holiday present for myself and now own a copy of The Past and Present of Woodford County, IL (Wm. Le Baron, Jr., & Co 1878) and would like to offer to do lookups from it for those of you on this list. At this time I can only offer lookups from the biographical directory, which comprises about a quarter of the total book. This book is old enough that I don't have to worry about copyright laws so I can scan and send parts of the book as attachments for anyone interested. I have a map of the Woodford Co townships, if anyone would like that for their records. It would help me if you tell me the township when requesting a lookup but it is not totally neccessary. 1. Re: [ILWOODFO-L] BECHTEL FAMILY
    2. Amy Robbins-Tjaden
    3. There is a short biography about one Fred Bechtel and his family in The Past and Present of Woodford County, Illinois (Wm. Le Baron & Co, 1878). Perhaps Fredrick was his son? "Bechtel, Fred, farmer; P.O. Eureka. The subject of this sketch was born in Germany, in 1834; came to America in 1851, and landed in New York, where he remained for one year; thence to Cincinnati and Hamilton, O., where he was engaged at his trade, as baker; from here he came to Illinois, and settled in Tazewell Co., thence to Woodford Co., in 1857; married in 1860, to Miss Annie Lebengood, of Switzerland. Four children--Fred W., Lizzie M., Samuel, Emma. Mr Bechtel owns a fine improved farm of 344 acres, one of the finest farms in Woodford Co; his parents are both dead. Father died when Mr Bechtel was quite young, leaving him to carve out a living; today, he is one of the successful farmers of Woodford Co." Amy Robbins-Tjaden atjaden@mindspring.com I am seeking information on Fredrick (Fred) and Hanna (Hannah) Zimmerman Bechtel who lived in Eureka, IL.

    1. [ILWOODFO-L] KINNEAR Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Charles W. KINNEAR taken 5 Sept 1885 in Eureka, Woodford County, Illinois when Charles was 3 years and 10 months of age. I believe that Charles W. KINNEAR was b. 5 Nov 1881 in Illinois and that his mother's maiden name was WOOSLEY, Charles died 26 June 1961 in Los Angeles, California at the age of 79. I'd like to find his family and return the photograph, like all family photographs this one deserves to be cherished and passed from generation to generation. If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

    1. [ILWOODFO-L] Blankenship
    2. Hello Everyone, This is my first post to the list, and it isnt a very good one. The reason being is that I am looking for my Calvin BLANKENSHIP without much to go on. I am sending this to the Illinois lists because I am thinking that since his wife was born in IL and her parents in TN, that maybe the Blankenship's moved from TN to IL, then to MO. Unfortunately I do not have last names for the women born in IL, but I figure that if I start shooting in the dark long enough, I will hit something. I estimate the Blankenship's migrating to IL after 1825. I found Calvin BLANKENSHIP married to DELIAH on the 1850 Texas County, MO census. Living next door to Calvin is WILLIAM BLANKENSHIP and his wife, PAMELA JANE. Since Calvin was only a couple of years older than William, I have to assume they are related, if not brothers, because they were the only Blankenships in TExas County at this time and they were both born in TN and both of their wives in IL (just thought that was interesting). SInce Calvin Died during the civil war (there is no record on him except a muster roll, since he was a confederate), he wasnt around when the government started asking where their parents were born. I followed Deiliah until 1880. I estimate her time of death between 1881-1883. I followed William, and he lists his parents as also being born in TN ..... although its a shot in the dark, is there anyone out there that has a link to a BLANKENSHIP's that had a son named Calvin, (who was born abt 1820-25) and/or William (b. abt.1823-1826). I do not have Calvin's parents names or their wives maiden names. I am hoping to connect them to someone who might be able to shed some light on this for me .... Thank you in advance!!!!

    1. [ILWOODFO-L] Poorhouse Records in State Archives
    2. Poor House Lady
    3. On The POORHOUSE STORY (a clearinghouse for information about 19th century American poorhouses) at http://www.poorhousestory.com we are extremely happy to have just posted the list of poorhouse holdings in the IRAD system of the Illinois State Archives. This is a very comprehensive list of an extensive collection of poorhouse records. And for even more excitement(!) .... there is a searchable name index for those Almshouse Registers for the following counties: BROWN, MERCER, OGLE, STARK and WOODFORD. Go to the homepage (link above) and click on POORHOUSES BY STATE, then click on OTHER STATES, then on ILLINOIS in the table of states. Be sure to click REFRESH on your browser when you get to the Illinois page. Then scroll way down until you find the section on the page for Records. It is marked with a yellow NEW arrow. Just click on the word .. table ... which is a link to take you there. Hope this is helpful! Linda Crannell (aka=The Poorhouse Lady)
