    2. I have just recently received a copy of my great great grandparents marriage certificate from Woodford Co. Hebon Wiles and Pattie A. Jeter were married July 3, 1867 by a Thomas Cotton, Minister of the Gospel. Does anyone know what church Thomas Cotton may have preached in? This marriage certificate is the only record so far that I have been able to find of this couple (other than one 1880 census entry) even though I know that they lived in Woodford from about 1865 or '66 until the 1920's and had six or seven children. I had hoped that church records might help me. T. Lindsay

    3. Does anyone have a listing, or know of individual churches in the Eureka area during 1870 that would still be around? I'm looking for my g-grandfather's birth record. He was born about 1871 before the state required them. I have no idea what the family's religious leanings were although I believe he is the grandson of Caleb Davidson, who helped found the church in the Walnut Grove area during the 1850s. I think it was called Christian Church? Please feel free to pass on to me any other suggestions you have for finding the certificate. Thanks! Becca Davidson

    3. David Fever has started an ambitious project to get Woodford Co cemeteries online. I get to it by going to http://www.elpasoil.org/woodford/publish/page2.html and clicking on various links. Some of the links don't work but many of those you can get to by going in through back doors, if you have the time and patience for it. I'm looking forward to the day when Mr Fever adds more cemeteries to the site as the ones already posted have been a big help to me in my research! Does anyone know of other Woodford Co cemetery listings online? Amy Robbins-Tjaden atjaden@mindspring.com

    3. Thank you, E. Bales for posting IL websites. it was helpful to see what was available for the time period to search for my John KUHN. I was not successful with him, but I did find something on another line in IL. There were records for John KUHNs in IL but they are not mine. Can anyone tell me if there are cemetery listings for Woodford Co. on line somewhere?

    2. Sharron Redden
    3. This is my first posting to this list, I am searching for records of my 2nd Gr grandparents, John KUHN and wife Katrina BUGENBERGER KUHN. They were residents of Woodford Co. (prob. near Metamora) for about 15 years- 1855 to 1870. When they relocated to Wichita, Kansas. I have been unable to find ANY records on them for this period of time. Family story says John applied for and was granted citizenship in Woodford Co. They were both from Germany, met on ship and landed in NY in 1852. married in 1854 and migrated to IL. My Gr. grandmother, Emma KUHN was born in Woodford Co. and believe there are at least 4 children who died young, buried there. August being one of them. They had 14 children, 10 lived to adulthood. I am unfamiliar with records and sources in this county, can anyone help with look-ups and or places to search for anything on this family? I am especially interested in the citizenship records and cemetery records for them. Is the 1860 census for Woodford Co. on line anywhere? Is there a state census between 1855 and 1870 for Woodford Co? ANY help will be sincerely appreciated. Thank You. Sharron Redden, CA

    2. Ellen Rowan Taylor
    3. Kristy, I don't know if this was the same Cook, but it was certainly the same time frame. These are 2 excerpts from my GAunt Cora Rowan's diaries from 1887 and 1888. In 1887, she was a student at Normal in Normal Illinois, and later on became a teacher in Secor and then Eureka. (She didn't have much to say about Professor COOK, but she certainly had some other interesting things to say-mites on the table?)I copied these as best I could, but found some of the entries hard to read. Sat Feb 26, 1887 Snow & Cold Went to station with Bessie. Anna cried. No Mail. Washed before dinner. Sewed and read this afternoon. "book" is very good by Tourgee. Went to society. Very good. Prof COOK critic. Very windy and cold. Found mites on table. No school Monday on account of furnace. Fri April 20, 1888 Dawned clear & bright and at seven we were on our way to Secor. Stopped at Aunt’s till train time. Met many teachers at the depot. Visited the East Side and found Rose’s school quite orderly but still noisy. When we assembled in PM what was my great horror to hear myself nominated and elected to the chair of Sec. With much embarrassment I filled the position very poorly on a platform six feet high. Clara and I were sent to Mr. Hodgson and was very highly entertained. In evening, Clara and I accompanied Mr. T.M.W. to lecture given by Prof. COOK which I had heard before, but was again enjoyed. > Hello All, > While I've always thought I was on this list to > watch for news about the Hill family of Minonk (on > my ex's side), I have just come across the news that > my GG-Uncle was principal for the Minonk schools in > 1887-88. 3. YES, Definitely, Lexington Illinois has a terrific genealogy library. My wife and I were there probably in July 2000, and found numerous valuable resources for that area of Illinois. I tried to find a reference to it on the genweb page for McClean County, but did not find it listed. I believe that it is a private library and located on the main street in Lexington. There must be someone else on this list that can give details of its location and hours.
