Hi Amy-- I'd love to have a scan of your photo. "Ruth Steffin" is probably my aunt Ruth Steffen--we just had a family get-together to celebrate her 80th birthday yesterday. The McDonnell family was close to our family--one daughter was maid of honor at my parent's wedding and another married my Dad's cousin. I'll be seeing Ruth again in the next couple of days and would like to show her the photo and ask a few questions. What was your grandmother's name? Maybe Ruth will remember when and where the photo was taken. I recently came across some old photos, including one of my grandmother as a young woman with four female friends/co-workers/absolute strangers (?). According to the back of the photo, these women were Ruth Steffin, Erma Arends, Loretta Campbell and Aldene McDonnell. If anyone would like a scan of this photo sent as an email attachment, let me know. It does not have a date on it but I would guess maybe the 1930s. I'd also guess it was taken in El Paso, since that's where my grandmother lived and worked. Amy Robbins-Tjaden atjaden@mindspring.com

My ggrandfather John MUELLER/MILLER/MULLER married Elizabeth MARTIN in 1860 and died in 1865. The only record I've found of him is the marriage license issued in Woodford County with the marriage performed in or near Tremont Tazwell County. I've been unable to locate parents or siblings. From a bible record his father passed away 7 Jun 1877 and his mother on 3 May 1885. Any help would be welcome and I'll share what I have of his info and descendants. Everyone, I failed to include the header of this memo. I merely fwd. the information; I didn't actually contact Prodigy. In case you have further questions, the original note came from Linda Emerson, Coordinator - Union Township, Erie County, Pennsylvania http://www.rootsweb.com/~paerie/townships/Union.htm Also, someone gave me this further information that might be helpful: > Also, to do anything meaningful, they will need the msg routing information. > If you are using MS Outlook, or Outlook express, click the "file" menu, then > select "properties", then select "details". Hi, I have a Hiskea (also known as Katie) WILTZ, born Dec 6, 1852 in Prussia. She married Mimke ADEN Jan 3, 1874, in the German Lutheran church, Linn Township, Woodford co. Illinois. The marriage license was from Metamora, Woodford co. She is next found giving birth to a son on Oct 3, 1874 in Butler co, Nebraska. That is all I have for her. I'm hoping to make a connection and perhaps a lead to more info on her side. Sandie
It looks like the fictitious Family Discovery genealogy service has moved to Prodigy now. I contacted Prodigy this morning and they have asked that anyone who receives solicitation email from familydiscovery.com to take the following steps immediately: 1) Forward the entire Family Discovery message to: abuse@prodigy.com 2) Include the following information (most of which was provided by Rita from the Oconto County, WI list): Please note that the attached message is now being sent through your ISP service. They have been reported to various State Attorney General's Office on computer fraud, but it is hard to catch up with them. Originally the "company" linked to free information sites and placed the pages in "frames" so that it looked like it was their own work. Customers paid for that information. The scam, now, is paying for the free information links and then they "move" frequently and leave their paid-up customers without services. 3) Post these same instructions on any other lists today so that Prodigy has a better chance of finding the spammers. -- Linda Emerson Coordinator - Union Township, Erie County, Pennsylvania http://www.rootsweb.com/~paerie/townships/Union.htm

OK. Everyone take a break from researching your ancestors. How many words of at least FOUR letters can you make from the word GENEALOGY? Can you make ten? One of the words is an obscure early 1900's word for thief or pickpocket. Ken Newton

Yes, Kevin~ My husband's great-grandfather was Louis/Lewis Miller/Mueller, born 16 July 1825 in France. He married Lydia Woodcock in 1846 in Woodford County and had a sizable family on which I have all the information of the children. After Lydia died on 31 March 1883, he married a Nancy J. Miller. I now believe heer maiden name was Meyers, but as yet have no proof. I need to find a marriage certificate for Nancy J. Miller and Lewis Miller. It seems she was married first to a John L. Miller, but this has yet to be proven. I do not know if the two Miller family are connected in some way. Nancy J. Miller at one time was from Mason City, Mason County, Illinois. Can you help with any information on these families? Thank you. Wayne-- I believe I am also descended from Benjamin Grove and Barbara Kendig. My gggrandfather was an Abram (or Abraham) Grove born 22 Feb 1825 in Harrison County, IN (according to his obituary). According to information I have found on the internet, but haven't personally verified, he was the son of Simon Grove, who was the eldest son of Benjamin and Barbara. I am finding some conflicting information on the father of Benjamin, however. Most sources I've found give his father as John Groff and Catherine Herr, widow of John Eshelman. However, I've found a few giving the father as a Benjamin Groff, born about 1726/27, shown as marrying Catherine Herr about 1761. I realize I'm putting the cart before the horse, not having documented the line back this far yet, but can you give me any information as to sources and reliability of the information for John Groff being the father of Benjamin. The only source I have seen cited in any of this is _The Book of Groff_, which I have not personally inspected. Thanks.
