    1. [ILWOODFORD] 1880 Woodford Co census lookup offer
    2. Amy Robbins-Tjaden
    3. I bought myself a Summer Solstice present--CDS of the 1880 United States census. Unlike the 1880 Woodford Co census I already have, this baby is indexed. That means I can look up names alphabetically. And that means that I can offer to do lookups for this list without worrying that my eye will slide right down my face in the process. Please limit your posts to one surname and, if you don't mind, put that surname in the subject heading. It makes it so much easier when I try to refer to an earlier post should I find additional information later. Of course you can ask for more than one surname...just send separate mail for each. Townships are always nice to narrow things down but are not a must. If you want to send your request straight to me, send it to amy@tjaden.com or atjaden@mindspring.com . If you want to send it to the list so that everyone can see what surname(s) you're interested in (in hopes that someone might be able to help you with their own research), send the request to ILWOODFO-L@rootsweb.com . 1. [ILWOODFORD] Sombody's Newsletter
    2. To the Woodford, Logan, and Dewitt Lists, I subscribe to the following newletters where people post items that they have found and are trying to reconnect with descendants, etc. I would love to someday come across something from my own family and when I see a likely avenue for an item, I try to forward the message, i.e. to a Surname List or a county List. As I am a member of the three above mentioned county lists, and the items were from Illinois, I copied these two messages to them in the hopes that there would be a better chance of a connection. I should have clarified that I do not have the items, I thought that people would see the e-mails in the body of the letter. The following are the two people that have them. Charlotte Bushroe cbushroe@hotmail.com Carol Hubbell Boggs HubbellGen@aol.com I think it is wonderful for people such as them to try to help people such as me who are looking for family items. I know that someone out there has pictures of my family. For those interested in subscribing to the Sombody's List and the Rootsweb list of found items, I have copied the information below. Sorry for the confusion! Terri Lindsay SOMEBODY'S LINKS NEWSLETTER is published several times per month and contains notices of genealogical treasures found, such as photographs, diaries, letters, and family Bibles. 2. o My fiance recently inherited two family photo albums. His ancestors (DAY, SCOTT, MARSTON) lived in Seward, Illinois. One album is from the 1860s and is of his ancestors' civil war pals. The second is full of friends from the late 1880s. I believe these pictures should be returned to family. If these names ring a bell, I can scan a copy for family members, or return it to any direct descendants. -- Wallace DOUGLAS, Co C 15th Ill Inf. -- Nicholas D. It says "Maggie BALDRIDGE age 16." She is in high fashion with 18 white buttons going up the front of her dark, long-sleeved dress, with her dark hair pinned up on top of her head. 3. I have a list, taken from the 1878 book "Past and Present of Woodford County", of some of the earliest settlers of Woodford Co, Illinois. This list was originally written by Professor Radford of Eureka College in a work entitled "Old Settlers' History of Woodford County". The earliest arrival is in 1819 and the latest listed are from 1835. If anyone would like a copy of the list, let me know. Amy Robbins-Tjaden atjaden@mindspring.com

    3. Dear County List, We have now entered pages for about 80 counties in Illinois, as links to the Homepage on our website, which may be of some help to researchers who have ancestors who were members of the Primitive Baptist church in Illinois. The information regarding the members names comes from a database in our library computer which is not on-line, but the surnames serve as an index to it, to help researchers determine if they may have connections in some of our churches. The database has been (and is still being added to) compiled from original source documents, including church and association records, and obituaries - many of which are found in our shelves of bound church periodicals. To see our website, go to our homepage: http://www.carthage.lib.il.us/community/churches/primbap/pbl.html or go directly to the Family History Assistance page at: http://www.carthage.lib.il.us/community/churches/primbap/FamHist.html Sincerely, Robert L. 3. >From another list I'm on.... John FORWARD>>>>>>>>>>>> Subject: [sane] new e-mail hoax (Compuserve announcement) Beware: Hoax E-Mail Could Trick You Be Net savvy! Do not believe everything you read--even in your own e-mail box. An e-mail message is making the rounds that suggests people should delete a vital Windows file to prevent a virus from attacking their PCs on Friday. It's a hoax! If you receive such an e-mail, do NOT delete the file, which is SULFNBK.EXE. This is not a virus waiting to be activated on June 1. Rather, this file helps Windows re-create long file names if they get corrupted. The e-mail message reads: "It was brought to my attention yesterday that a virus is in circulation via e-mail. I looked for it and to my surprise I found it on mine. Please follow the directions and remove it from yours TODAY!!!!!" The message continues to say that the file slips itself into the c:/Windows/Command folder where it remains dormant until Friday when it will suddenly activate and wipe out all files and folders. NOT TRUE! The e-mail message isn't being spread across the Internet by some insidious Microsoft Outlook virus; instead, it's being spread by well- meaning friends who think they're protecting one another. If you've already been tricked by the message and deleted SULFNBK.EXE, use your Windows CD to reinstall another copy. --Cathryn Conroy Get a shot of viral protection! Still missing is "Aunt Sis"....Cornelia Rush. Nicholas and Jane's parents were all listed as being born in PA. Also found some Hallams listed but still have not found a connection between Hallam and Rush, other than Douglas Rush being buried at Hallam Burying Ground, Woodford County. I do know he died of TB, 1896.

    3. Hello Everyone, Is there anyone on the list who could do a lookup for us? We are looking for the obituary of a THOMAS BUCK who died July 28, 1935. We believe he is buried in Hudson township cemetery, his wife is buried there also, all we know is that she died in 1965 and may have possible remarried after the death of Thomas and that her married name was then AMANDA PAUL. Is there anyone who lives close to the county courthouse who could look up her death record and get some information for us? We would also appreciate that on THOMAS BUCK also and will be glad to pay for the time and expense involved. Thank you very much. Paul and Louella Miner

    1. [ILWOODFORD] Newspaper Obits, etc.
    2. Could anyone give me some advice on how to go about (rather quickly) finding newspapers from around March 7, 1911, that might have a Woodford County obituary in it? I live in Virginia so I am unfamiliar with the newspapers of the area. I know for a fact that my great great grandparents, Martha Ann "Pattie" Jeter Wyles and Henry Wyles (formerly Hebron Wiles), were married in Woodford county in 1867 and that they lived there all of their lives after that, according to a grandson that I have been fortunate to come into contact with. This grandson had no idea that his grandfather and grandmother were from Virginia, that his grandfather had been a captured Confederate soldier, or that he had changed his name. He also does not remember when his grandmother and grandfather died or where they are buried. They did find the purchase records (by Martha J. Wyles) for a lot (10' x 10') in Springdale cemetery, Oak Ridge Center, dated March 7, 1911, so I am speculating that perhaps her husband might have died around then. Another very distant "relative" that I have met over the internet is making a trip to Illinois from Arkansas, in just a few days, to try to find Henry Wyles grave as he is eager to prove that Henry is his long lost uncle that disappeared in 1865. He has been looking for records of this uncle for 10 years. We are 98% sure they are one and the same but wish to make it 100%. From what I can tell, Springdale is in decrepit shape and in receivership so records, if there were any, are inaccessible. I also know nothing of the possible funeral homes in Woodford co. that may have handled the funeral. I would immensely appreciate any help or advice from any locals, or people more familiar with Woodford County, as I know how frustrating it is to be in a strange area and not to know exactly where to look first for information. It is even more frustrating, as I have found from personal experience, to get back home from such a trip only to find that the information, or gravesite, was within your reach and you just were not looking in quite the right place. And going back is not always an option. Thanking you in advance for your help. Terri Lindsay New Kent County, VA

    3. I'm the shy person looking for information about a place called Hallam Burying Ground. My Gr-Grandfather Douglas Rush is buried there. We know nothing of the Rush family. Douglas died when my grandmother was only 5 years old, putting his death year around 1896. My aging mother has asked me to find out what I could about the Rush family. Douglas had a sister named Cornelia, and one that grandma called "Aunt Rye." Also looking for connections to Christian Gerth, who was a farmer, age 50, from the 1850 Census, Woodford County. Wife is Alice Gerth, daughter Mary. Mary married Charles Brown in Leavenworth, Ks. Charles W. Brown may also be from Woodford county. They lived also in Wisconsin, where some of the family is now buried at Hazel Ridge Cemetery, Elkhorn, Wisconsin. (Thank you, Amy. Maybe I did not decend from alien creatures after all!) Sharon
