I must have missed your offer on the 1880 census. Would it be possible for you to look up the name Mathis, or possibly spelled Mathews? Thanks for your kind offer. Mary MacChesney Other Woodford County names: Harmon, Zeller, Oster, Nicolas, Hoshor
Thanks for the offer Amy. Could you please send me a list of the FISCHERs that are in the 1880 Census. There are at least two August Fischers - my Grandfather & Ggrandfather that I'm particularly interested in. I'd also like to know about any others that were in Woodford County. Thanks John E Fischer Cincinnati OH > I bought myself a Summer Solstice present--CDS of the 1880 United States census. Unlike the 1880 Woodford Co census I already have, this baby is indexed. To all, I'm researching the Meils family of Woodward County. If you have any interest in them please e-mail me. thanks, debbie
After reading Amy's note about Co. K, I remembered that I have the Muster and Descriptive Roll for Co. D of the 108th Inf. There are at least 6 members listed with Woodford Co. as their residence. They are: Charles Hillman Joseph W. Kellogg John H. King Washington Millbun Joseph Sunderland -my relative Lafayette Steward (hard to read) I would be glad to share any of the information listed for these men. Roberta McReynolds
I've got one solitary copy of a page of the Muster and Descriptive Roll of Company K, 108th Infantry Regiment of Illinois Volunteers from 1862 which includes a few other men from Woodford Co besides my relative, John SEGGERMAN. They are: Peter FARNII, Daniel GARDINER, John H. GREEN (or GROON or possibly even GROVE), Philip GREENFELDER, Frederick LUERS, Ashael (?) MIDDLETON, Nicolas MEYER and Joel POWELL. If anyone wants the information that's written on this page about any of these men, let me know. It gives rank, age, physical description, occupation, nativity, where and when and by whom they joined for service and enrolled, when they were mustered into service, residence, where they were mustered out and there's a section for remarks (died, missing, deserted etc). Hi-- I've got the written okay from the Woodford Co Historical Society to pass on the news of a reprint that will be available in late October to anyone who wants to buy it (as in you don't have to be a member of the Society to buy their books). It's the Prairie Farmer's Reliable Directory of Farmers and Breeders of Woodford County, Illinois for 1917. A note in the flyer I got says, "These listings give the name of the farmer, wife's maiden name, list of children, post office address, exact location of farm, indicates owner or tenant, size of acreage and the year he came to the county." I'm excited about it and think it will be a great resource. The Society sent me five extra brochures that contain the order form for this and other books they have available for purchase. If anyone would like one, send me your street address and I'll pop it in the mail. Or you can find information about it at www.eureka.lib.il.us/community/wchs/index.html . The only acquisitions I came home from Illinois with for this trip are a 1977 Atlas and Plat Book for Woodford Co and a 1979 Atlas and Plat Book for McLean Co. Both are indexed. I can't copy any of the pages for anyone due to copyright laws but can certainly look to see if someone is listed and give the location of the land they owned then. My grandma's funeral was a sad event but also joyous as I was able to reconnect with relatives on that side of the family with whom I hadn't had any contact in decades. Her funeral book reads like a Past and Present of Woodford Co with many familiar surnames of people I'm not related to but who show up in my Woodford Co books and in various lists of settlers etc. A surprise was meeting her roomate at the Home and finding that I was related to her down two different lines. Wait a minute, I'm talking Woodford Co genealogy...maybe it shouldn't have been a surprise! A few more newspaper pages will be following. My apologies if any of you aren't interested in them but the response I've received regarding them have all been positive so I'll continue until I'm asked to stop. Anyone researching the SEIPEL (SEIPLE) family from Woodford and/or Peoria Counties? Thanks! Kevin Miller
The only Jones I have is NAOMI JONES married SAMUEL MISHLER, 7 Feb 1865, Woodford County, IL. She died 6 Mar. 1875, Eureka, IL. She would have been married to my Gr-Gr-Step Grandfather. Sharon Moeller
Am posting this again in hopes that new readers might have some information on these families. My g-g-grandfather was Elder John T. Jones (wife Emily Woodward Jones) and family "legend" has it that he helped establish Eureka. His son, Joseph Janvier Jones, married Lucy, the daughter of Ben Major. His son, Charles Woodward Jones, was my grandfather. I am looking for the burial sites of any of the Jones family. Also am trying to find out if John T. and Emily had any other children besides these two sons, and would love to know if Joseph Janvier Jones and Lucy had descendants. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much. Nancy Baer Prince Frederick, MD
I am looking for any information on Antji Aden daughter of Heye and Cente Aden. she came to woodford county with her parents in 1869. In Heyes will her name was Clausen. I have a marriage license for Heibe Clausen and Antji Aden in Peoria, but it does not say who parents are so not sure it is her. I need the proof. She is my husbands ggrandmother. I would appreciate any help on locating her. Thank you Bernice Aden Bella Vista, Ar.
Condolences to our "worker bee", Amy Robbins-Tjaden, on the passing of her grandmother, Gladys M. Blair, who died Wednesday, August 22, 2001 at age 92 in El Paso, IL.
I thought I might title this "A Voice in the Wilderness" but decided on a more helpful name. I really am here and really do read all the mail. I just don't seem to find our little bit of a family. Joseph HILL...born about 1856 by my guess...(where? his mother was from England)...and he was in Minonk by 1888 when he had a formal photograph made. He married on 8 Dec 1880 in LaSalle Co, IL, to Mary Elizabeth BRUNT. Mary Elizabeth BRUNT...born about 1861 by my guess...to Mr and Mrs. Charles BRUNT of England & Ireland and then Mendota, LaSalle, IL...she also was photographed in Minonk in 1888...and she died in DeKalb, DeKalb, IL in approximately 1915. Family tradition says that they "had" a brick yard at Minonk and that it supplied the bricks for the Catholic church in Dixon. The Hills had two daughters. Sarah Margaret "Mae" HILL TWOMBLY was born on 3 May 1886 and died, in DeKalb, in the mid 1960s. Her husband was John Francis TWOMBLY of DeKalb. They had three children. The second daughter, Florence HILL HUGGINS was born about 1889? She and her husband, William "Will" HUGGINS, had two children. If you are aware of this family, and able to add even a small bit of data about them, please be encouraged to write. I'd like to discover more about them in order to expand this part of my daughter's family tree.
