    1. [ILWOODFORD] Woodford Co Historical Society
    2. Amy Robbins-Tjaden
    3. I just found out from the webmaster of the Woodford Co Historical Society website that the membership dues for that Society have not been raised for 2002. So, if anyone wants to join or renew their membership, the dues are only $7.50. You can find an application for membership by going to http://www.eureka.lib.il.us/community/wchs/ and then clicking on the link for Membership Application. Though the WCHS is rather small and doesn't publish newsletters or similar things, many of it's members were a huge help to me last year (including finding me out of print books) and I'm proud to be a member myself. Maybe if more of us joined, we could make it bigger and better and more helpful to more people? Just a thought from snowy North Carolina. Amy Robbins-Tjaden atjaden@mindspring.com

    3. I posted the following biography on the Woodford Co message board hosted by Rootsweb/Ancestry in response to a query there and remembered that someone on this mailing list is researching DEBOLT so I'm sending this to the list in hopes that the DEBOLT researcher is still subscribed and will see this. >From The Past and Present of Woodford Co, Illinois (1878): Tool, Matthew, proprietor of "Home Flouring-mill", was born in Augusta County, Va., Feb. 22, 1829. When he was about 5 years old, his parents removed to Tazewell Co., Ill.; he was raised on a farm until he was 18 years of age, when he learned the trade of a carpenter, which he followed about twenty years. He came to Metamora Township in 1849; settled in the village in 1858; built the Home Mill in 1868, and has been engaged in the milling business ever since. He was married June 29, 1854, to Miss Margaret Debolt, who was born in Greene County, Penn., March 27, 1831; they have five children -- Alice E., George H., Mary E., John W., and Julia A. 3. I know I am not suppose to advertise anything, and I'M NOT. Someone might want to contact the person on the site to see if they can copy this full name index for their webpage, so others can view it in the future.I hate to see good info go to waste, and once the auctions are over you can't view them anymore, from what I remember. This is not my book and advertising the book is not my purpose, if anyone is interested in it fine, please don't let this valuable name index go to waste. I have written several times to people that post indexes for permission to post on webpages, they always allowed it, then I sent them to my county administrator and she posted them on the county page. http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1400157142 Hope it helps someone Jas. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? 3. This came in over another mail list......thought I would pass it on. ===================================== The Canadian government plans to permanently lock up or destroy all census records made after 1901. Genealogists throughout Canada and in many other countries have been fighting this plan. This week genealogists received a major setback in their efforts. For more information see: http://globalgenealogy.com/Census (in English) and at: http://globalgenealogy.com/Census/Index_f.htm (en fran=E7ais).

    1. [ILWOODFORD] Tjaden, Mennen, Harms
    2. Amy Robbins-Tjaden
    3. Hi-- Since you all are so quiet these days, I can only assume you've all managed to finish up all your family research and trace yourselves back to Moses or so.. Well, I haven't. And I'm looking for any helpanyone may have to give in trying to trace one of my ggrandfather's brothers, Ralph Tjaden. He was born in Linn Twp, Woodford Co, IL in 1884. From notes left by a woman who drew up a very rudimentary Tjaden family tree over 20 years ago, I have the information (with no documentation) that he married a woman named Emma. In the 1900 Woodford Co census (Linn Twp) - Ralph Tjaden is not listed with his parents and siblings. Instead he is listed as a servant living with Harm and Minnie Tjaden Mennen (she was not one of my Tjaden clan). He was sixteen at the time of the census. Next door to the Mennen family is the family of "Ilet" Harms, who have a daughter named Emma. Could this be the same Emma who later married Ralph? Is anyone on this list researching Harms or Mennens in that area who might have a stray Ralph? His son dropped the T from Tjaden and I have reason to think Ralph may have done the same, since there is a listing for a Ralph Jaden in the SSDI online who died in Illinois (though I don't know if he's my Ralph or not). Many thanks in advance for any help. Slowly, slowly I'm making progress on this line! Amy atjaden@mindspring.com amy@tjaden.com

    3. I assume you have checked out the El Paso History webpage at http://www.elpaso.net/~bank/elpasohistory/index.htm There are several Alexander burials listed in the Evergreen Cemetery database on this page, including Henry, b. 1869, died 1930, who I assume must be your Henry. Also, Francis Marion Strobel and Sadie Tool Strobel (1869-1944). I have not taken time to browse through any of the other references on the page, but there may be more info in them. 3. I've just posted the Business Directory for Woodford Co that appears in the 1878 edition of The Past and Present of Woodford Co by Wm. Le Baron, Jr. & Co. in hopes that it may help someone who is researching family in this area. I put them on the Rootsweb/Ancestry message board at http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=localities.northam.usa.states.illinois.counties.woodford Since the link splits onto two lines, you might not be able to get there by just clicking it. Even if you don't find any familiar names there, it's fun reading about occupations and the things people sold back in the day. Amy atjaden@mindspring.com amy@tjaden.com
