Dan Steffen, Thanks so much for the information about the loss of the burial records in El Paso in1880, due to fire. I went back to the El Paso history website and to the "El Paso Story". It's wonderful to be able to read it online---I was wondering how I would find those pages you mentioned, as I live in Oregon Besides those pages, the whole story is interesting. Some good people in El Paso have my appreciation. I checked the Myers listed and think two of them may be my gg grandfather, John C.Myers brothers. Then I found my g grandfather, David McCutchen, son in law of John, on pg 247 with an article about the Co. "D" he commanded in the Civil war. I'm finding a lot more than I expected. I have sent for death certificates for John and Elizabeth Myers. Do you have any suggestions on where I could find an obituary ? They were Methodist ,so I can try for a church record. Thanks again and best wishes, Pat Salyer

HOWEVER, please note the following from the text of the El Paso Story, pg 129, on that same site: "James T. Hewitt was appointed the first sexton January 17, 1863 and continued until November 16, 1891. He was a bachelor and lived alone in the southeast part of El Paso, and during his absence on February 21, 1890, his home burned and the only book with the earliest burial records was destroyed." If there were no marker, or if it was destroyed before the current records were "recreated" from existing markers, they would probably not be listed. Church records or newspaper obituaries may still exist to confirm their burial there, but it would probably be difficult to pinpoint the exact burial location. Pages 390 and 391 have some listings for Meyers and Maiyer with geneological information. Boy are you in luck! Check out this link and tell me if you agree? http://www.elpaso.net/~bank/elpasohistory/index.htm
Hello out there, Is there a cemetery index that someone has access to and could look up a couple of names for me? They are supposed to be buried at El Paso cemetery. John C.Myers died abt. 1881 Elizabeth (Ekleberry) Myers died Dec.1883 I would appreciate any help Pat
Use this link to enter the database, then you can use the record links. Apparently some special software has to be loaded first before records can be accessed. Sorry for any inconvenience. Wayne http://carlweb.rsa.lib.il.us:1080/
In Woodfood County the town name is Minonk just north of El Paso. Ragadass
John, Would you mind checking your book to see if there is any information on William Clifford who according to Fairfield Co. OH land records was in Woodford County IL (Minouk) in 1867? Also looking for twin sons Newton and Marquiss Clifford b. 1850 and son John Clifford b. 1853. Will gladly pay for copies if any information found. Thanks.
Re: message # 4 Same thing happened to me when i sent off a check for the Combined Atlas of Woodford. I was able to obtain a copy, however, by writing to the Woodford Co. Historical Society at a different address: Eureka Public Library. I am unable to find the address right now but I'm sure it can be obtained via phone directory. It is an excellent book.

A few months ago I got an address for a Historical Society in Eureka as a contact for buying that combined atlas of Woodford Co. I wrote out a check and sent it to the address (which I may or may not have gotten from this list) and it was all returned to me with a note from the Post Office that the address was no longer valid. I'm still interested in buying a copy of that book. I wish I could remember the name of it! It was a combination book of atlases of the county from about four different years and was just wonderful! I got to look at a copy of it while in Minonk last month but couldn't find it in any bookstores. Does anyone on the list have a copy they would like to sell to me? Or, does anyone know of an address where I could send off for a new copy? At the very least, could someone tell me what the title, author, ISBN etc of the book is so that I can look for it through different avenues? Thanks. Amy Robbins-Tjaden researching just about every family in Woodford Co!
Pat, Have you tried the Woodford County Historical Society??? Their volunteers man a little log cabin in a park in Metamora,Il. I've only been there once but it seems they had a copy of that book. The little log cabin is only open a few hours each Sunday and may not be open now because it's getting cold here. I'd check it out for you myself as I'm about 8 miles away but I'm working 70 hours a week so no time but let me know if you can't find it and maybe I can figure out a way to check it out for you. I am looking for anyone who may possess or know of a library that has this book: Past and Present of Woodford County, IL, Published 1878. I am interested in xerox copies of page 513 and 531, Thomas Whorrall and John Whorrall. Patricia A. Whorrall Ellis
Tammy: This is a great project and thank you. About 98% of my family live in Woodford County and this will certainly help me here in California. Bjessen760@aol.com
Hello, We are trying to get as much information online for Woodford County as possible. In that regard, Woodford county is in dire need of local volunteers to extract marriage, birth, death records from the county clerk's office and obituaries from local papers [past and present]. Software for the extraction of marriage records can be provided. If interested, please contact me. Tammy Woodford County coordinator

Got this from another site and thought we might all benefit from it! There's a great resource on the net for those of us who go cross-eyed trying to read the handwriting in family Bibles, on marriage certificates, etc. The website is a "How-to Genealogy Site". There is an article that you might want to print called "Deciphering Old Handwriting" by Sabina J. Murray. The place to look is: http://www.firstct.com/fv/oldhand.html You should actually be able to click on the above and go right there. Mickey in Iowa
