If these two listings are for the same individual then he was married twice. First wife being an E. Ann (______) and the second wife being Sarah J. There is somewhat of a problem with the childrens names. Is Josephine age 14 in 1880 the same individual as Ruth J age 4 in 1870? Similarly is Elonzo, age 12 in 1880 the same individual as John L, age 2 in 1870? It looks reasonable to me, but then I have no connections to these indiduals. The Sarah listed in the 1880 census is probably Sarah Morgan whom James married on June 15, 1876.
