Hi all. Two quick announcements: 1) The WCHS will host a Cemetery Tour in the Crab Orchard Wildlife Refuge on Saturday the 20th of May at 10 am. Contact Charla Murphy at <[email protected]> if interested. These are always fun and free. 2) Over Labor Day weekend, various groups are working together to host a "Genealogy Homecoming" (see message below). The WCHS probably will be involved, no exact details yet. Contact Mort Watson at <[email protected]> for more info. The >tentative date is Labor Day weekend (Sept. 2-3). The idea is to bring >people living away from here (as well as locals) who are interested in >southeastern Illinois genealogy together (kind of a return to your roots >theme). The location will be S.I.C. as a central meeting place and a point >of departure for other events, such as a bus tour to scenic or historical >sites, cemetery visits, research trips, etc. So far the Saline County >Genealogy Society has agreed to open its library for that weekend and the >Saline County Circuit Clerk and County Clerk have agreed to keep their >offices open that weekend. We would like to involve Hamilton, White, >Gallatin, Pope, Hardin and Williamson Counties as well as Saline. The >event would be promoted primarily on the net and through genealogy groups >newsletters, as well as some local media.
