Thank you to those who helped me determine that my Mary Ann Ledbetter Morse (b1842 in IL or KY) could NOT be the daughter of Matthew Ledbetter who was born about 1800 in Kentucky, or of Wiley Ledbetter, son of Mathew Ledbetter. Having eliminated them, I am now focusing on the next most likely prospect for a relative, James R. Ledbetter. James R. Ledbetter cannot be my Mary Ann Ledbetter's father because she does not appear in his household in 1850 when she would have been 8 years old, but he and Sarah J. Ledbetter appear to be somehow related to her. Here are the census entries for James R. Alabama Nancy, 16, Illinois Wesley, 14, Illinois (***See note immediately below ***) Cyntha, 8, Illinois Haspoling, 4, Illinois Vienna, 1, Illinois Note that son, Wesley Ledbetter (b1846), married Emeline Stephenson first (1867) and Minta Grimes third (1884). Mary Ann Ledbetter Morse's daughter, Cordelia, married Jasper Stephenson in the same county, 1878! Mary Ann Ledbetter Morse's other daughter, Sarah, married John Copland Ward in 1888. George Washington Thrasher and Lucy Grimes were the witnesses at this wedding. George Washington Thrasher married Sarah J. Ledbetter who was the daughter of Wesley Ledbetter and the granddaughter of James R. Ledbetter. SOMEHOW MY MARY ANN IS CONNECTED TO JAMES R. LEDBETTER, BORN TN(?) ABOUT 1820; AS WELL AS TO HIS GRANDDAUGHTER, SARAH J. LEDBETTER WHO MARRIED GEORGE WASHINGTON THRASHER. After witnessing the wedding of Mary Ann Ledbetter Morse's daughter, they lived just 3 doors away according to the 1860 Grand Chain, Pulaski County, Illinois census Is anyone on this list familiar with these folks?
