Hello all. Belated merry Christmas wishes, and I hope that you all will enjoy a happy new year. I have some important news: the Williamson County, ILGenWeb site is changing its website address, for the first time in 4 years (and believe me, I hope this address works for the next 4 years): http://livin4.com/williamson Please update your bookmarks and favorite places. Note that the old address is still working; it just has a message up that redirects you to the new address. Apart from updating a few things, everything remains the same. I have 3 other messages to pass on: 1) Patrick O'Key added some memories to the "County Memories" site. Everyone, please take a few minutes to enjoy the reminisces others have posted! And anyone who wants to add their thoughts, please e-mail me, so I can put them up ASAP! Imagine how interesting your descendants will find these memories! 2) Kerry Moody (email address: [email protected]) has passed on a photo taken between 1921-1924 of the Lantz/Lance School kids. She has identified her grandfather V.L. Roberts and his brother Monty and sister Bea, but asked me to please post this to see if we can get any other members identified. According to Barbara Burr Hubbs' book, "Pioneer Folks and Places," the Lance School was in the northwest corner of Southern Township (southern part of the county). Calvin Lance gave the deed for the land in 1860, and the school district took his name as a sign of gratitude. To take a look at this photo (it's really big, but you need to be able to see their faces), go to: http://livin4.com/williamson/lschool.jpg 3) Deanna West (email address: [email protected]) has passed on a Civil War letter written by George A. Lacy. Deanna says that the "reason for sending it to you, is George marries Susan E. Bolin in Williamson County on 1 Jul 1853. He then buys a farm in Williamson county on 4 Apr 1855 and lives there with Susan and two children who survive childbirth. Then in 1860 he sells the farm and moves to Stoddard County, MO and the Civil War starts (note letter)." The letter is available at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~dunelady/georgeletter.htm Thanks, all! Let me know what questions you have about the change in address, and also any finds of your own or suggestions for the county site! Angela Place
