    3. Charla: Don't you love Y-DNA testing!!! It has really helped me. . . in fact, we have 4 groups started on our various lines. You and I have communicated before about several lines (most recently Carroll Johnson Young / George W. Young). Your Murphy line is of interest. Quite a few of my ancestors (not associated with the Youngs) came from Wilson County, TN in the 1840s and settled in Poordo / Attila. Among them are the surnames EDWARDS, O'NEAL, HAWKINS, ODOM, HENRY, CAPLINGER, and BELL - all familiar names in the cemetery there. Seems the older generation stayed in Wilson County, TN and many of the younger generation headed for Williamson County, IL. The reason I am writing you about Murphy is that my great-great grandmother's 1/2 sister was Faitha / Faithy Hawkins who married Warren Murphy in Wilson County, TN January 2, 1851. Faitha's 1/2 sister, Nancy O'Neal Edwards, left Wilson County, TN for Attila in the late 1840s, so I thought your Murphys might connect. Warren Murphy appears to be the son of Harty / Hearty Murphy according to the 1850 census of Wilson County, TN, female, born NC. I haven't pursued the name of her husband. Were your Murphys in Wilson County, TN before Williamson County, IL? Are any of the men you listed the husband of Harty Murphy? I didn't see a plea for Murphy Y-DNA donors appearing on the Wilson County, TN mail list, so thought I'd mention the Murphy / Williamson County, IL / Wilson County / TN connection. But, as thorough and long a researcher you are, I'm sure you have explored this. Could be just a coincidence with such a common name as Murphy. If you should have any information on Faitha Hawkins Murphy, I would appreciate receiving same. Her mother, Dorcas Midgett O'Neal Hawkins (sister in law to James O'Neal, b1796, of Attila) apparently lived until the age of about 110 in Wilson County, TN according to family history, but I have yet to prove it. Always hoping to find an obituary! Amazing how a woman could live 100 years and leave almost no tracks! For years another researcher and I have suspected that their ancestors Solomon Murphy and Bazil may have been brothers. He also tested and the DNA are matches, proving they have a common ancestor. Here is who I believe the family to be. John C. Murphy, father and Polly Unknown, but possibly Corder is the mother. Their possible children: William B. Murphy b. 1814 TN/AL, Lewis C. Murphy b. 1817 AL, Solomon Murphy born 1819 AL, Bazil Murphy b. 1822 AL, James Murphy born 1825 AL, Polly Murphy 1828 in IL, Polly marriedJesse Abney in Saline County, IL. If there are any male descendants who would like to participate in this DNA study of Murphys it would be greatly appreciated. Unfortunately female descendants can not participate for a surname project. Another line related to myself that has it's first participant in a DNA study is the Sanders line. Dave Sanders from the Luke Sanders line has completed his DNA testing. Luke was one of the seven Sanders brothers that came from Robertson County, TN to Williamson County, IL. and is the son of William Sanders and Mariah Unknown. I believe, but have no proof at this time, that William had brothers Robert who married Judith Maxey and James C Sanders who married Cynthia Gent. James died in Stoddard County, MO in 1846 but his children were then raised in the homes of William's children in Williamson County, IL. James had sons: James Tazwell Sanders, Andrew Jackson Sanders, Isaac Jasper Sanders and John Colen/Calvin Sanders. Possibly one other brother to William is Andrew Sanders who married Lucinda Riley Gent. If there are ANY Sanders male descendant who would participate in this study perhaps we can prove or disprove a connection. Please feel free to contact me if I can be of any assistance. I am not connected to the company that does the DNA testing. I do feel DNA is one of our greatest tools to knock down some brick walls and include or exclude some of the persons we have always suspected to be related. DNA is just one step to prove a common ancestor between persons then it's back to the paper trail to prove how we're related. This is all great fun and I'd like to hear from others who have Williamson County connections and have also participated in a DNA study.
