Mr. LAUNIUS was a farmer. He was a welder at the car shops in Mt. Vernon and an insurance agent for Farmers Mutual of Enfield for 45 years. He was born May 21, 1915, in Dahlgren, a son of William Riley and Cora Belle (HESS) LAUNIUS. On Oct. 29, 1939, in Colombia, Mo., he married Helen Gray DOUGLASS, who survives. The funeral was Monday at Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro, with the Rev. Billy ROCKETT officiating. Burial was at Hebron Cemetery, west of Walpole. In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Gerald Ray LAUNIUS and wife Donna Jean of McLeansboro and Larry F. LAUNIUS and wife Elsie of Broughton; five grandchildren, Christine BECH of Austin, Texas, Ladonna LASATER and husband Barry of McLeansboro, Lucas LAUNIUS and wife Chantima of Japan, Ginger VICKERS and husband Quentin of Broughton and Derek LAUNIUS of Broughton; three great-grandchildren, Jacqueline BECH of Austin, Texas, and Slade and Daxton LASATER of McLeansboro; one sister, Lois Fern UPCHURCH of Ames, Iowa; one brother-in-law, George W. "Jack" DOUGLASS of Broughton; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. LAUNIUS was affiliated with the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a director at Hamilton Memorial Hospital when the hospital was built, and a former director of the Hamilton County Soil and Water Conservation office (active 55 years). He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Kermit F. LAUNIUS; and four sisters, Lena EZELLE, Faye TUCKER, Ruth PARKHILL and Opal B. RHINE.
