To: Researchers in Franklin and Williamson Counties, IL My great grandmother was Mamie "Mommie" E. McGUIRE (nee HAYES), b: 01 April 1883, d: March 1981. She lived in Marion, Williamson County, IL. Her siblings were George HAYES, Charley HAYES, Ben HAYES, Maggie HAYES, Arthur HAYES. Their parents (my great, great grandparents) were Sarah J. KAYES and James A. HAYS (an alternate spelling of "HAYES"), Jr., who married on Jan. 27, 1876, in Franklin County, IL. I have not seen a copy of this marriage license, but I understand that it can be found at the Franklin County Court Records on Film # 1005304 - 1005310 or in Volume 03B, page 0243. Since I live out of state, I have not looked up this marriage license. I am wondering if it would state the bride's and groom's parents' names. I believe that one of the parents of Sarah J. KAYES or James A. HAYS/HAYES, Jr. was a full-blooded Native American (possibly Cherokee from KY or TN) and am trying to locate the name of this Native American. I do not know the names of Sarah KAYES' parents. James A. HAYES/HAYS, Jr.'s parents were J. A. HAYES (b: 1822, d: 21 June 1903) and Nancy ALPIN (b: 1834, d: 20 January 1879). Does anyone go back further than this? Thanks very much, Maggie Kinney Texas
Is there any interest in a CLARDY DNA research project? I would be interested in having my 82 year old father tested, but there is little use for his results if no one else participates. We are a line that has a spelling change, but I can find records with the Clardy spelling for his ancestors in the 18th & 19th centuries. Please email me with thoughts or questions. Hello: There has been another match to the DNA submitted from descendants of Bazil and Solomon Murphy. This one is from the line of Thomas L. Murphy b. 1826 Grainger County, TN and died aft 1900 in Benton County, AR. If there are any Murphy males who would like to participate in the DNA project we would love to see it happen. If there are any other DNA participants with Williamson County ties and would like to put their line on the Williamson County, IL DNA site I would be happy to put your information on. Thanks for your response. I do not find this name but might be a cousin. My connection starts with Ozia Pyle who married Altha Belle Davis about 1907. She was daughter of David & Priscilla Jane Swann Davis. ----- Original Message ----- From: roperrl To: ILSALINE-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Saturday, May 21, 2005 8:09 AM Subject: Re: [ILSALINE-L] Sorry for previous Jeff Hargrove message / Mifflin, Swann, D... James Allen Holderfield was born 02/1875 . He married Minnie Edna Mifflin on 12/10/1896 in Williamson County, IL daughter of Sidney Mifflin and Martha Halloway. Minnie was born 09/1878 in Illinois. Their known children were Cletus Holderfield born 07/1897 and Harry Holderfield born 01/1900. 1910 Williamson Co., IL Census I found a James Holderfield W M 35 yrs with 2nd wife of 2 years, Maude his wife is listed as 18 years old and daughter Helen is listed as w f age 1 2/12. Did not find Harry Holderfield who would have been about 10 yrs. Cliuis (spelling) 12 yrs old is listed in the 1910 Census of Williamson Co., Il Stonefort in the household of Charley Tanner with Charley's wife (? name) and son Roscoe Tanner (11/29/1891) who was 18.. Does anyone have info on the children Cletus or Harry Holderfield? Their mother Minnie Edna Mifflin is part of my Mifflin family. Thanks, Judie Boone

Hello all - this is not exactly genealogy-related (at least not to anyone but ME), but I have now told the story so many times, and keep getting messages wanting to know what's going on, that it seems easier to post it to this list and some others for all interested: My daughter Elizabeth Rushing Place was born on Sunday, 3 April 2005 here in Overland Park, KS. She was about a month and a half early, but (thank goodness) was perfectly healthy and is doing well. She weighed 3 lbs 12 oz at birth, and was 15.25 inches long. As of last Sunday (her 4-week birthday), she was 5 lbs 4 oz and 18.25 inches long. If you want to see a photo of her darling self, go to: http://www.people.ku.edu/~place/elizabeth2.JPG I did have a c/section, but am doing well; our three-year-old is adjusting to his new sister better than we had even hoped (so far); and my husband doesn't seem much more stressed-out than usual. :> Thanks to all for the prayers and good wishes. Even though she came early, I don't think she could have turned out better. Hope all is well with all of you, and sorry for the mass-message. Angela
I am looking for information on the marriage of John Bione and Dora Malandrone. They were married on June 3, 1919 in Williamson CO. Paula Meinert
Looking for any information on the Riggs family. Thank you Sue
Does anyone have a photo of the old hotel that was on the main street in Creal Springs, IL in the 1920s? All I know is that by the 1920s it was really old and ready to be torn down. I am researching the families listed below who resided in Herrin. LAND, Milton (b. @ 1908) married Elsie Bryant (1909 - 1966) = child James M. (Land) Stay - LANG, Hugo (?) married Elsie E. Bryant = child McKinley L. (Lang) Stay - I specifically am looking for birth/marriage & death dates of Mr. Land & Mr. Lang. Elsie latter married Edward Stay, at which time he adopted both boys. I have check the website on Illinois Trails for Williamson County, SSDI and have searched the census, but the marriages must have taken place between 1920 & 1930 as I have found Elsie using the surname LAND in 1930, living with her parents Charles & Margaret Bryant. Any suggestions or assistance is very much appreciated. Thank you, Denise Parsons
I found a John Bione listed in the 1930 census of Herrin with his wife Maggie and daughter, Jenette who was 3 months old. I am trying to determine if John is the son of Guiseppe Bione and Marianna Zucco. Marianna was living in Herrin in 1918 when her father, Joseph Zucco, was listed on the manifest on the Ellis Island website. Giuseppe was residing in Pennsylvania with his second wife Serafina at this time. I can't find Marianna, John or Joseph on the 1920 census of Herrin. The age of this John Bione fits with the christening record I have from Rivarolo, Piemonte, Italy. I would be happy to share any information I have on this family. Paula Meinert
Hi, I'm looking for an obit for Zacharia (with various spellings) Harris in Stonefort area of Williamson County or possibly Stonefort, Saline County. According to Guardianship granted to his wife, Sarah, Zachariah died sometime from 1872 and 1876. Any help or leads are appreciated. Linda in WA
Hi; Was there a newspaper in Williamson county in 1865? I think there was one in Marion but am not sure. If so did they have obits in 1865? My fourth great grandfather Thomas Howerton's widow Annis had her sons appointed as executors of her husbands estate in Dec 1865. This has led me to believe that Thomas died in the summer or fall of 1865. Thomas owned property near old Sulfer Springs in the Southeast corner of Williamson county it was also very close to what later became Creal Springs in 1882. Does anyone have access to this kind of information? I would appreciate any help. Thank You Mike Howerton

Hi! Were there any newspapers published in the Stonefort area back into the 1850s and 60s? I'm interested in finding an obituary for John Carr. Died sometime between 1860 and 1870. He was born in South Carolina but lived most of his life in Jackson County, AL. He moved his family from Jackson County Alabama about 1853. In 1860 he was living with his daughter Nancy Spence and son in law John Abner Spence. In the 1860 census they were listed in Saline County, Stonefort PO, T10 R5E. Also would there be an obituary available for Nancy Spence who died April 8, 1913 in Stonefort and was buried in Joyner Cemetery? I have checked a listing of burials in Joyner Cemetery and can't find her or her husband. Thanks!
