Is there something wrong again with the system or is everyone really quite today? Thanks
This is the information I have on WILLIAM C.TRAVELSTEAD; Father FREDERICK TRAVELSTEAD JR. B. abt.1785 N. Carolina D 1854 Saline County, Il. Married 12 1818 Sumner County, Tn. Mother Mary Burton B. unknown near Charleston, S, C. D. 1855 White County, Il. Joe Barter
This site and Union are working fine. Is anyone getting mail from Jhnson and Masaac? I haven't had mail from either for quite a while. Betty FL
For Joe Barter: Do you know who William C. Travelstead's parents were? I believe I found him on the 1850 census of Allen County , Kentucky, at age 16, but he is working on the farm of a James Mayhew. I am guessing his father is Abram Travelstead. Do you have the father's first name and was Elaine the first name of the daughter? I probably do have them, but need the first names. Linda
Yes Elaine was the daughter she could have been around 17 - 18 years of age. I can't remember the Father's name we called him Preacher White. Thanks for your reply. When I lived in Herrin in the 40's we were friends with a family by the name of White.....the father was a preacher and sometimes worked in the mines. They had about 5-6 children, one was Elaine and she was slightly mentally challenged. Do you know this family? Your reply was fine. However, it is common practice to not copy the previous mail unless it is related to your post. I have copied all of your mail to show you the result. Angela's post had nothing to do with your's yet it got resent to the list - with the close of the list repeated also. If you delete the previous mail, or at least the unneeded parts it is helpful to others, particularly if they are doing a quick scan for useful information. The importance of the subject line, and even the information sent is that many folks get upwards of 100 emails a day and they sort them for deletion by subject. The ones they keep, it is often useful to be able to read quickly on the first round. With a good subject line and useful info, there is a better chance of getting a useful response from someone, rather than it getting lost or deleted. The surname of interest is proper as you did it. In your case, the dates would have been too restrictive. If there had been an appropriate date, then it is good to add that. That was what Angela was getting at and you followed it fine. I looked through my database and did not find your Thompson, or other names. Sorry on that. Hope someone else had your names. Lorraine, Although, I was born in Chicago, my father was raised in rural Creal Springs, IL and I went to school a few years at the grade school before moving to Peoria, IL. When I was a child in the 50's, Creal Springs was a very nice small town with wonderful old buildings that housed four grocery stores, Holmes, Beltz(Kroger), Waters and one other one. It also had a skating rink, drug store, general merchandise store, lumber yard, post office, several service stations, etc. The town at that time was kept very clean and neat and the people of that generation took great pride in their home and places and town. Of course, like any town of then and today, there were a few places that weren't as nice, due to the fact of older people living in them and not capable of caring for their places the way they should be. But there again, other people in town would help each other more than today. It was a nice small community to raise children. When I went through there a couple years ago, I was saddened, to see the way things were. Also, you may be reconizing address from Creal of people that live around the lake. They too, have an address of Creal. Thanks, Linda Holmes White SURNAMES: WHITE, HOLMES, TANNER, UPCHURCH, HENSHAW, TURNER, GULLEY
Loraine, By todays standards Creal Springs is rural. However there was a time when it was a thriving community with it's own college. The "springs", naturally occurring springs around which the village grew, were a big draw. Today there is a bank, one or two (small, locally owned) places to eat and a convenience store/gas station. The school is part of the Marion school district, grades K-9 with high school age kids bussed to Marion High School. I have an Elijah N. Spiller m. Elizabeth unknown b. c 1803 TN. He is in the 1850 Williamson Co. Census with wife and seven daughters oand two sons, William and James. The children were born from 1830-1850. Sharon
I have a question regarding Creal springs. My mother grew up on a small farm (40 acres) in Creal Springs from about 1919 until 1932 when she and her Mother moved into Marion. I always thought that it was a rural area. I notice an awful lot of people with families coming from Creal Springs. Is it a large area? It seems as though there are an awful lot of families coming from there. Am I wrong about it being rural? Loraine --------------------------------- Get your email and more, right on the new Yahoo.com
