I could use some help. It seems that I recall reading a biography of a Maneese (any spelling will do, Menese, Minece, etc.) for either James or Benjamin. Now I can't find it anywhere. Can someone point me to the correct book to find this or tell me that no such thing exists? Thanks, Marcia

Cottage Home is still around and not under water -- I stopped there last summer on a genealogy research trip. It's in Grassy Township, about a mile north of Devil's Kitchen Lake at a Y junction. I don't know the road names, but it is marked on the Crab Orchard Lake 7.5 minute topo quad. The longitude and latitude are 37 39 25N / 89 06 03W. The only building in sight is a Baptist church on a gravel drive. I have read (can't remember where) that the church driveway was once the location of stores and other buildings. Some of my Drueke ancestors were born at Cottage Home -- delivered by a Baker and neighbors of a Thaxton. --- John Drueke http://www.siue.edu/~jdrueke/family/ On 27 Mar 2000, at 8:12, Jerry Mullins wrote: > Does anyone know where Cottage Home was located? Attention McDaniel Researchers I am looking for the parents of my grgr grandmother, Jane Catherine McDaniel Deaton. Jane C. was born about 1829, LDS says in Williamson Co., but I'm not convinced. Jane married first Walter Damron in 1849 in Williamson Co. then in 1856 she married George Washington Deaton. I have searched and searched for Jane's parents but can't find them. If anyone can help me here I would love to hear from them. Could someone tell me if Reynoldsburg was in Johnson or Williamson county? Also, has anyone knowledge of a "Deaton Settlement" in Williamson Co. during the Civil War? Lee Ann

I'm new to the list, and desperately hoping to open some family doors in Willliamson Co. My grandmother, Dedaricka Craig, b.1908, was daughter of Frank Craig. He married her mother, Agnes Koobs of Tazewell Co., sometime before Deda's birth, but they separated before she was born and Deda never knew her father. Family tradition has it that Frank and Agnes divorced around 1910, and that he then died somewhere around 1920. No one knows. Frank's parents were Robert Craig d.1937, and Sara Catherine Thaxton Craig, b.1857 and d.1946. In her obituary, her children were listed as Lucinda, Roy (L.L.), Eva, Pearl, and another daughter, as well as Frank. Two of her children were reported as being deceased at the time of Sara's death. Her parents were James Richard Thaxton and Margaret (or Mary) Ramsey. My mother, Deda's dau., remembers visiting the Craig family when she was a child, during the 30's and early 40's. Before my grandmother died, she became depressed and said she didn't think her parents were ever married, but there is no evidence that this is the case. If anyone has any info to share, I'd love to have it! Thanks, Pam Hartman [email protected]
My gt grandmothers name was Eliza Elvirey (Menees) Mcginnis Farmer. She was born 1839 in Carterville, Williamson Co., IL and died in Tillamook Co., OR in 1894. She was first married in Union Co., IL to Phineas McGinnis, she had 3 sons that I know of with him then she married in 1864 Union Co., IL Axom D. Farmer. She had several children with Axom and they headed to OR in the mid 1870's. I have a record dated July 1879, Tillamook Co., OR where Eliza granted her attorney, power of attorney to dispose of land which was her grandfather's James Menees. I see on the Williamson Co website in the Menees cemetery there is a James W. who died November 1877. I'd appreciate hearing from Menees or McGinnis people so I can get grandma's line correct. Also does anyone know the history of the Menees Cemetery in Williamson Co.? Thanks, Patti Murray [email protected]
