Hi Angela, 1. Thanks for the note on Rev. McKinney. He is a relative of my brother-in-law, who is also a James McKinney. 2. Could you please give me the rest of the quote on him? He is buried at Freedom Church Cem. South of Marion. 3. Regarding the denomination... I'm reasonably sure he was Baptist as are all the McKinneys of this clan that I am familiar with. 4. Jerry, thanks for the picture, will go to see the picture right away. Can you give me more info on the Hampton cemetery you refer to? Still looking for more McKinneys of this clan. Hello Everyone, This is my first post to the list, and it isnt a very good one. The reason being is that I am looking for my Calvin BLANKENSHIP without much to go on. I am sending this to the Illinois lists because I am thinking that since his wife was born in IL and her parents in TN, that maybe the Blankenship's moved from TN to IL, then to MO. Unfortunately I do not have last names for the women born in IL, but I figure that if I start shooting in the dark long enough, I will hit something. I estimate the Blankenship's migrating to IL after 1825. I found Calvin BLANKENSHIP married to DELIAH on the 1850 Texas County, MO census. Living next door to Calvin is WILLIAM BLANKENSHIP and his wife, PAMELA JANE. Since Calvin was only a couple of years older than William, I have to assume they are related, if not brothers, because they were the only Blankenships in TExas County at this time and they were both born in TN and both of their wives in IL (just thought that was interesting). SInce Calvin Died during the civil war (there is no record on him except a muster roll, since he was a confederate), he wasnt around when the government started asking where their parents were born. I followed Deiliah until 1880. I estimate her time of death between 1881-1883. I followed William, and he lists his parents as also being born in TN ..... although its a shot in the dark, is there anyone out there that has a link to a BLANKENSHIP's that had a son named Calvin, (who was born abt 1820-25) and/or William (b. abt.1823-1826). I do not have Calvin's parents names or their wives maiden names. I am hoping to connect them to someone who might be able to shed some light on this for me .... Thank you in advance!!!!
If you know any foreigners who are driving thru Southern Illinois now, do everybody a favor and tell them to buy all the pure apple cider they can. They can trade it anywhere, because everybody likes it, and really good apple cider is not always easy to get everywhere. My problem has been to keep enough for myself. I know, if you keep it long enough it goes hard and alcoholic and turns into a really fine beer. My friends are aware of that, and they don't see it as a problem. If you keep cider long enough, it turns to vinegar. I've been told that cider vinegar mixed with honey is a healthy drink. And that Julius Caesar thought so too, and so we now speak a language that is largely Latin. I threw in the historical argument only in case someone really needs to convince a skeptic, and in case any cider might be left by then. Bruce Wms
Thanks again, Jerry. Every Egyptian relative I can run down, I refer to your site, whether they're wired or not. The ones who are, I hope, will convert the one who aren't. And thanks Angela, for your note about Pastor McKinney. Does anybody have pictures of some of the congregation? Jerry always reminds me of the importance of digital images, and of newsgroups like this. Thanks to you all, and especially to Margie Garr in Arkansas, I have a fine portrait of my great-great grandparents, whom none of my family had ever seen before in their lives. And then a California lady happened to mentiion a relative of hers who happened to be a friend of Mom's during WWII, and I was able to send her pictures. Bruce Wms
In Barbara Burr Hubbs' book _Pioneer Folks & Places_, she writes: "Hampton Free Baptist Church stands south of Crab Orchard and east of Grassy Creek in section 26 of Carterville Township. James Wesley McKinney was pastor there in 1901 and 1909-10, before his service as superintendent of schools and after he organized the McKinney Chapel..." For those of you that are interested I have posted an old photograph of Hampton Church on my web site under the Post cards of Southern Illinois. This church no longer stands but was at the Hampton Cemetery in Williamson County just south of Crab Orchard Lake. Does anyone know what denomination this church was? http://www.geocities.com/jmullins49 ______________ Jerry Mullins ([email protected]) PO Box 733 Colfax, CA 95713

A number of girls were beginning to use lipstick and would put it on in the restroom. That was fine, but after they put on their lipstick, they would press their lips to the mirror leaving dozens of little lip prints. Finally the principal decided that something had to be done. She called all of the girls to the restroom and met them there with the maintenance man. She explained that all these lip prints were causing a major problem for the custodian who had to clean the mirrors every night. To demonstrate how difficult it was to clean the mirrors, she asked the maintenance guy to clean one of the mirrors. He took a long handled squeegee, dipped it into the toilet and then cleaned the mirror. Since then there have been no lip prints on the mirrors. There are teachers and then there are teachers. --part1_40.1e8751d.2714fcd7_boundary--

Over the weekend, I asked the question concerning the location of my gggrandfathers land. The response has been both educational and overwhelming. I wish to thank all the people that have responded. I now have Williamson Co maps showing the location of townships in the late 1800s to the present day. I have ordered a copy of the Williamson Co atlas and will be able to do my own location work in the future. Thanks again for the information and the education. By the way, the location is in Grassy Township, Southwest of Wolf Creek, and very likely underwater. I hope they also were to the originator of the question as well. thanks to all, Tina Hall [email protected] Tina's Family Genealogy Page at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~thall/ Steve and Tina's Home Pages at: http://home1.gte.net/res00waz/index.html
Had I done my research better, I would have told you that the new 2001 Williamson County Atlas and Plat Map is available from the : Williamson County Farm Bureau 1517 East DeYoung St. Marion, Illinois 62959 Phone # 618-993-2609 I believe the lady said that township 10 is Creal Springs, Stonefort area.
Everett, Tina, and other interested listers, Here are a couple of links that should provide the information that you seek. 1st, here's the location of maps from 1895 for all of the counties in Illinois: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/maps/illinois/il1875/ You can scroll down to WILLIAMS.JPG and click on that, or you can go straight to it with the following: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/maps/illinois/il1875/WILLIAMS.JPG These maps have the townships and ranges on them and show the locations of the sections within each township and range block. You need to know not only the township (10 south in your case) but also the range (1, 2, 3, or 4 east for Williamson Co.). These maps are old and some place names may have changed or be missing; however, the township/range/section information will not have moved. Finally, here is a good link for an explanation of the public land system as it pertains to Illinois: http://www.sos.state.il.us/depts/archives/data_lan.html#location This page shows how the system is organized. There is also a link to a neat map of Illinois with all of the sections laid out. The map is in Adobe's PDF format. Hope this helps, Bill in Katy, TX Tina Hall wrote: > > Please share the answer on the list as I would also be interested in knowing > the answers. > > happy hunting, > Tina Hall > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Everett Spitzner" <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Sent: Saturday, September 23, 2000 1:01 PM > Subject: [ILWILLIA] Land Location > > > I have received from the Federal Land Office a Certificate of Purchase > from > > the General Land Office. There is information on the Williamson co. site that is incorrect Joel Kirby Oakes is listed as Joel Rubybakes. It is in the Mann GED on the Williamson Co. site,. it is also listed that way in the Marriages. I am sure of this because Joel Oakes who married Sally Mann is my GGgrandfather. I know you all can see how fancy script letters could be confused but I assure you Joel Rubybakes should be JOEL KIRBY OAKES who married Sally Mann. Powers that be Please be sure to correct this information. Thank you. Judy
