Hello all. Happy 2001. I don't want to confuse anyone, but I have now heard from 2 different people who had a little trouble accessing the ILGW site for Williamson Co at the new address (http://livin4.com/williamson). They both got a message asking for a "password." Of course, there ISN'T a password for the site, but I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem?? Please let me know. Second, I just wanted to note that I'm working on improving the search engine on the site--it's already better than it was, and I will keep working on improving it. So if you haven't done a search lately, you might want to try-- Angela
Sorry, everyone! Boneheaded me mistyped the address (I guess I'm still not used to the new address). The Jent photo is at: http://livin4.com/williamson/jent.html I inadvertently put a "g" on the end of "livin" (I *am* an English major after all!!!). Sorry for the confusion-- Angela
Augie Fried (email address: [email protected]) has sent in a group photo probably taken somewhere in Lake Creek / Johnston City, most likely sometime around 1915-1920. Augie's great-grandfather, Leroy Madison Jent (born 1877) is standing second from right; the couple in front may be Frank and Ethel Rogers Hoffard, but he's unsure. Take a look at: http://living4.com/williamson/jent.html Have a happy new year! Angela
Hello all. Belated merry Christmas wishes, and I hope that you all will enjoy a happy new year. I have some important news: the Williamson County, ILGenWeb site is changing its website address, for the first time in 4 years (and believe me, I hope this address works for the next 4 years): http://livin4.com/williamson Please update your bookmarks and favorite places. Note that the old address is still working; it just has a message up that redirects you to the new address. Apart from updating a few things, everything remains the same. I have 3 other messages to pass on: 1) Patrick O'Key added some memories to the "County Memories" site. Everyone, please take a few minutes to enjoy the reminisces others have posted! And anyone who wants to add their thoughts, please e-mail me, so I can put them up ASAP! Imagine how interesting your descendants will find these memories! 2) Kerry Moody (email address: [email protected]) has passed on a photo taken between 1921-1924 of the Lantz/Lance School kids. She has identified her grandfather V.L. Roberts and his brother Monty and sister Bea, but asked me to please post this to see if we can get any other members identified. According to Barbara Burr Hubbs' book, "Pioneer Folks and Places," the Lance School was in the northwest corner of Southern Township (southern part of the county). Calvin Lance gave the deed for the land in 1860, and the school district took his name as a sign of gratitude. To take a look at this photo (it's really big, but you need to be able to see their faces), go to: http://livin4.com/williamson/lschool.jpg 3) Deanna West (email address: [email protected]) has passed on a Civil War letter written by George A. Lacy. Deanna says that the "reason for sending it to you, is George marries Susan E. Bolin in Williamson County on 1 Jul 1853. He then buys a farm in Williamson county on 4 Apr 1855 and lives there with Susan and two children who survive childbirth. Then in 1860 he sells the farm and moves to Stoddard County, MO and the Civil War starts (note letter)." The letter is available at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~dunelady/georgeletter.htm Thanks, all! Let me know what questions you have about the change in address, and also any finds of your own or suggestions for the county site! Angela Place
Heritage Quest has most census years and locations available on CD-ROM. http://www.heritagequest.com/cgi-bin/nspage26.cpg?catalog=store2&file=mf.htm&@[email protected]=M653-239 They are scans of the original records, not transcriptions. Hope that helps. I'm looking for ancestors and siblings for my gg grandfather Alexander KELLY (KELLEY) who was born in Scioto Co., OH, b. 29 Dec 1821. He moved to Illinois some time before 28 May 1847 (as this is the date he enrolled in the Illinois foot Volunteers for the Mexican War). I have no real proof of who his father is. One report is that his father's name was John KELLY, b. England or Scotland 1789 (approx.) And that his siblings were George, Arlene and William. In the 1880 Texas Co MO census Alexander lists his father being from Penn (or Tenn - writing is light) and mother from CT. One rumor is the mother died in a flood. Two siblings, George and Arlene went west with relatives and were later found living in Arkansas. Alexander and William went to Illinois. Alexander married Mary Jeanette "Polly) HINCHCLIFF 9 Aug 1849. Moved to Texas Co., MO around 1870 and died 19 July 1885. Children were John J., William, Allen W., Alfred, Alexander Robert, and Sarah Alice. Would be glad to share information. Katherine Barber Springfield, MO
Ruth Ray just let me know that she has a website up, with names, for Shiloh Cemetery. I put a link on the main Williamson Co site, and here's the address also: http://www.geocities.com/shilohcemetery/ Angela
