    3. Hi all. I wanted to pass on some information about this website: http://www.familydiscovery.com Evidently, they've been scamming a number of folks lately...they offer "membership" for $7.99 a month, in exchange for "lists" of genealogical information available on the Web (including most USGenWeb sites, which are of course free to all in the first place). Basically, this site is like "Cyndi's List" (http://www.cyndislist.com), except that Cyndi's List is free, and this site is charging. If you want to check it out, just go to the website, click on "Member Login" and type in any old username and password (like "kojack" and "january1"). The site will let you in, and you can look around. (Clearly the people running this thing aren't too bright...) Anyway, DON'T give these crazies any money for what you can already have for free... Rockchalk. Over and out-- Angela

I took a minute out of our volunteer typing time to check this site out. http://www.familydiscovery.com/ It is a fraudulent site because a membership gives you links to our free sites. You do not have to pay to get to any site in USGenWeb Right here, there is no charge to get to all the counties in USGenWeb. We are all hardworking volunteers to have genealogy information free for researchers. I have found links to our Macoupin civil war rosters, censuses, which we spent many hours of volunteer time now to have unknowing researchers pay a membership to click on a link to view our work. Macoupin County ILGenWeb volunteers have put over 1400 pages of free information and continuing to work to get more pages up. If any person finds our complete work in their membership, please notify me. Please pass this information onto any list. Let's try to keep these ripoffs from making their pile of money from our volunteer work. Please pass this onto any list you might be on. Hopefully, this site will be removed soon if not sooner. 2. Dear Patty, The web site you are looking for is: http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/cgi-bin/archives/marriage.s then search for Head and Hill turns out their marriage was in GALLATIN County on 7/23/1898. scroll over to the right and you will see their marriage is recorded in Vol G, page 17. if you play around with the searches, you will see lots of other head combinations that might be of interest also. if you navigate the pages further, you will see that the SIU IRAD division holds that record. by writing to the SIU IRAD (address also on those pages) and providing them the above information and sending $1 and asking for a copy of the marriage register, you may find out a lot of other information. i say may because i have never seen the information provided by gallatin county. another reader has reminded me that all county information was not created equal!!!!!! i encourage you to give this a try. if you need any help, please just let me know. Happy hunting, Jo Ann Henderson Higdon [email protected]

    2. Gee, Brenda, I have had wonderful info back on the So. Ill. counties I've been working on. The on-line register has been very accurate and if I need further clarification, I deal with the regional IRAD office (SIU in my case) and I only pay a dollar. Sorry to learn your county info was too restrictive for your needs. Jo Ann

    1. Re: Illinois Marriage Records On Line
    2. I want to praise an excellent (and free) source of on-line information of which some are unaware. The on-line Illinois Marriage Index (provided by the State) is a wealth of information. For those of you unfamiliar with this resource, it covers a considerable number of counties (but not yet all) throughout the State from 1763 to 1900 (I've actually seen a 1906). You can search by groom or bride, full names or only surnames, by county or by the "entire" State, etc. If you find a possible "match", a linked page tells you how to go about ordering copies of marriage registers (typically much less expensive than the actual certificates--but the page is not a certified page, etc.). The marriage register will provide a considerable amount of information--ages of the parties, names of parents (including maiden name of mothers), where they were living at time of marriage, names of witnesses, etc. Since the register is inexpensive, you can afford to do a little fishing. While on line, you will need to scroll to the right to see all of the information. Remember to include that information when you make your request. In case you have not visited this site, may I suggest you give a look: http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/genealogy/marrsrch.html BTW, I would love to hear from anyone researching the following names in Williamson County or near by. Happy hunting, Jo Ann Henderson Higdon Bermuda Dunes, CA, USA searching: HENDERSON, AVERY, PULLEY, JACKS, HIGDON and lots of others in So. Ill.

He was md. to Sarah Tanner. I need to know the childrens names, ages, etc. Anderson C. was b. 1852 in Wm. Co. Also would appreciate any other Henshaw in those census. 2. Brenda Hébert
    3. Actually, the information you get is whatever the counties send to the State. In the case of Kankakee County, for example, all you get is a photocopy of the page of the Marriage Book that the names are listed in. So, it only lists the bride & groom's names, the certificate number, the date married, the date returned, and the person who performed the marriage. When I sent a request to Kankakee County's Clerk, they sent me a photocopy of the same exact page, no certificate, nothing. And for THAT I paid $7 :o( Bren ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, February 27, 2001 7:30 PM Subject: Re: Illinois Marriage Records On Line > I want to praise an excellent (and free) source of on-line information of > which some are unaware. > > The on-line Illinois Marriage Index (provided by the State) is a wealth of > information.
