Hello and thank you for allowing me to participate in this group. My husband’s 2x GGrandparents Hubert and Sylvia Millen lived in Joliet from about 1870 to around 1887. Hubert was born in Luxemburg around 1832. Sylvia was born in New York in 1850. Sylvia and Hubert divorced somewhere between 1877 and 1885. In 1887 his counsin, Conrad Brehn took him to a Veteran’s Home in Leavenworth Kansas. He was said to have had dementia. He was only 54 at the time of his admission. Hubert was a Civil War Vet serving with the Morgan Rifles. He died at the Veteran’s home in 1894 with Chronic Dementia. Sylvia and Hubert had several children: Rosa b. 1867 in New York Terrsa (Theresa) b. 1870 in Joliet Mary Elizabeth Maymee b. 1875 Ellen b. 1877 Sylvia married David Dewalt Shutt in Gary South Dakota on 23rd July 1885. She listed herself as a divorced woman. My husband and I are planning a trip to Illinois at the end of February. We intend to visit Joliet. Could anyone tell me where we might find Divorce records for that period. I am eager to find more about Hubert while we are there. Thank you so much for your help Karen Riley An Aussie living in Idaho.
