Hello! Are any of these surnames ones you are researching in Will County 1840-on? FINNEY, SPRINGER, HOFFMAN, BARR, JONES, HOOD, GAWTHROP, PHELPS, SWIVAL, McAFEE. FINNEY and SPRINGER(HOFFMAN) are the names of the two wives of Nacy 'Anassa?' Harrison JONES, a farmer, who lived in Florence and Jackson Townships, Will County, in the time period of 1855 until his death in 1876. BARR is the married name of a sister of my great-grandmother, Margaret G. SPRINGER/Hoffman (widow of Jerry HOFFMAN), who was the second wife of my great-grandfather, Nacy H. JONES. The other surnames are the names of the spouses of Nacy's children by his first wife, Rachel FINNEY, who died in Will County in 1860. Margaret SPRINGER JONES' mother Rachel SPRINGER, widow of Enoch SPRINGER of Cape May County, NJ, also lived in Will County for a while with her youngest son Robert SPRINGER. Later they moved to Fayette County, IL. Robert died, unmarried, in Tennesse during the Civil War. After Nacy's death, Margaret moved to Fayette County, IL., with her JONES children and married Thomas KEEN, a Clay and Fayette County farmer and land owner. I have info to share on these families.
