    3. I have ordered old Joliet papers on microfilm a number of times through interlibrary loan--usually from the Illinois State Historical Library (which, incidentally, I think will also do obituary searches for a fee--see the third website below). Unfortunately the State Hist. Library has suspended their service temporarily while they move to a new location, but I should think they'd be back in business by spring.... The US Newspaper Project has undertaken to catalog all the old newspapers still available in the US--you can see what's being done in ALL states at this site: http://www.neh.fed.us/projects/usnp.html To look up Illinois papers, try: http://www.library.uiuc.edu/techserv/inp/mergeddatabase/search_form.asp and more generally http://www.library.uiuc.edu/techserv/inp/webpages/main.htm Once you know what's available, you can fill out an interlibrary loan request for microfilm at your local library (it's for inlibrary use only, so your library must have a microfilm reader). Ask your librarian, because sometimes if one source doesn't work out, they can obtain it from another institution. In most cases all you pay is the postage. Reading these old papers is also a great way to get the flavor of the times!
