    3. Hi Robin, Scots records are a specialty of mine since I an half Scot myself. I noted that James' sister Anne's middle name was HODGART. That in Scot ancestry usually means she was named using her grandmother's maiden surname. So I went hunting...and found James BROODWOOD(BROADWOOD)married Janet HODGART 26 Sept 1801,Paisely,Renfrew(parish records of Abbey,Paisely,Renfrew) and had 1.-William BROADWOOD 15 Jan 1804 2.-JAMES BROADWOOD(BRAIDWOOD) 27 Oct 1805 who married Helen HERCULES 12 Dec 1829 who had James BRAIDWOOD b. 20 Oct 1831 who married Helen RALSTON and had John b.29 Mar 1856,Helen b. 5 Feb 1858,Andrew b. 8 Jun 1859,Robert b. 21 Sep 1861 and Ann(HODGART) b. 18 Oct 1863. 3.-Mary HODGART BROADWOOD 1 May 1808 then I noted in the same parish registers similar naming patterns in same time frame(1850's--1860's) John BRAIDWOOD wife Isabella HUSBAND had Robert BRAIDWOOD b. 22 Mar 1857 Mary HODGART BRAIDWOOD b. 5 Feb 1859 Janet b. 20 Jul 1860 Paisley Agnes b. 25 Aug 1862 Paisley Thomas b. 18 Jul 1864 Paisley and Alexander BRAIDWOOD wife Jane BLACBURN(Alexander maybe born 29 Nov 1834 to John Braidwood and Euphemia Thornton-Jon & Euphemia married Barony,Lanark 14 aug 1829. Alexander wife Jane(aka Jean sometimes)BLACKBURN had first two children in Paisley,Renfrew then rest in Hutchesontown,Glasgow,Lanark-which fits with marriage in Lanark. Usually married in parish of the bride) Alexander & Euphemia's children as follows: BRAIDWOOD James b. 11 Jun 1859 Paisley Euphemia b. 18 Nov 1860 Paisley John b. 24 Nov 1862 Hutchesontown,Glasgow,Lanark JANE HODGERT b.30 Dec 1865 " Alexander b. 9 aug 1867 " also have you gotten the 1861 & 1871 census' for Paisley parish(parish number 573)on microfilm? (IF birth records of Braidwoods give street address use the street index films first for 1871 census) might show connections of all families. 1861 street index film# 014116 1861 census (actual)film # 0103903 1871 street index film # 0104117 1871 census(actual) ED 1-29 film# 0104087 ED 29-30, 1-37 film # 0104088 also since James' (who founded Braidwood)sister Anne HODGART Braidwood never married, have you searched for her probate record in county courthouse where she died? Since she had no children, heirs would have been nieces and nephews or other relatives. There would have been a "proof" of heirship showing how the heirs were related. Just because John BRAIDWOOD(BROADWOOD)wife Euphemia doesn't show a birth doesn't mean he isn't a son of James BROADWOOD wife Janet HODGART,just means birth may have been outside Renfrew or not recorded as John(Jno,etc.)father only listed- birth between 1801-1813(based on his marriage in 1829 & marriage of James BROODWOOD to Janet HODGART in 1801) Scots records are complicated, no doubt about that! Hope this helps Regards, Kathy _________________________________________________________________ The new MSN 8: smart spam protection and 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail
