    3. My genealogy helper book has that Will Co. has death records dating back to 1876. Has anyone had any luck at obtaining any records from this era? 3. Hello Oneida: The State of Illinois did not mandate the filing of death certificates until 1916. Any records before that are sporadic, so you may or may not find one. There was always one filed if the case involved the coroner (or at least there should have been). Other than that, there were no hard and fast rules. 3. For Oneida, death certificates are available from 1877 to 1915 in will county not 1876. BUT death certificates were not required by the state of illinois until 1916 and even then people were reluctant to start making them out until almost 1920. Send me the names you are looking for and I will check for you. zavada@uti.com Kathy
