Hi list, I have been researching my SOUTHERN family and have hit a wall in ILL. My gggrandfather was Septimus SOUTHERN born in Eng. and came to the US in 1872 with his wife Martha and children Edwin & William both born in Eng. In 1880 census they were in New Castle, Pa. Their children were Edwin 14, William 9, Mary J. 6 b.OH.; Septimus Jr. b. PA. age 4 and Carra B. b. PA age 1. I am trying to find more info on Septimus Jr. b. abt 1876 d. UNK. m. (1) Mary Hannah Wilkinson May 6, 1899 Will Co. ILL. b. UNK. d. Sept. 20.1918 They had 2 children Elmer b. abt 1900 and Cecila b. abt. 1903 both in ILL. In the 1920 census ILL. Septimus Jr. was widowed and living with his son. I know his second wife was Lucy Day of ILL. I found she was married first to John Patrick Sept. 11, 1891 and had a daugher Nellie b Jan. 1892. In the 1900 census ILL she is listed living with her mother and family and was widowed. In 1920 census ILL she is listed still living on family farm in ILL. Wheatland twp. with her sister. My problem is I know Septimus and Lucy were married after 1920 but can find no info on it. Any help would be appreciated. Marcie in PA/MD.
